Fandom Invasions Class #7 (Thursday period 3)

When the students filed into the Danger Shop they found two young girls standing with John in the usual lecture spot.

"Hi," the older one said, bouncing a little on her toes. "I'm Susannah Lynn and this is my half-sister Grace. Dad asked us to help him with this class since it's all about us.

"See, there was this big swirling thing, a..... vortex?" She looked up at John for confirmation of the word, grinning when he nodded and then continuing. "And a bunch of us kids got pulled through it and came to Fandom and got to meet our parents before they were our parents. It was really freaky and a little scary, but it was also a lot of fun." She giggled. "Seeing everybody's face when they realised we were their kids was really really funny.

"It was so much fun, that Dad decided that you should get a chance to play too! Isn't that great?" She turned and looked up at John again. "This is where you take over, right?"

John smiled and nodded. "It is. Thanks, Susannah." He addressed the class. "Fandom is always throwing the unexpected at you. And sometimes that isn't a hostile invasion. Sometimes it's the next generation. The object this class isn't to fight the invaders, but look after them. Keep them amused, fed, make sure they go to bed on time... you know. Be parents. And then make sure they get back to where they're supposed to be."

Grace pulled on John's pantleg. "Daddy? I wanna colour!"

John picked her up and smiled wryly at the class. "Sometimes it's easier to just beat something up."

Valentine had managed to make it through that particular weekend unscathed. Or, rather, kidnapped by teal deer. So he really had no idea what in the world to expect, here and now.

So if he was a tiny bit fidgety, well, that wasn't much different from the norm, but at least for once he had a reason to be antsy.

"UncaValentine!" There was a short humanish thing trying to hug a Valentine. And possibly trying to climb, as well.

And there's a second short humanish thing, possibly trying to jump on his back. "Uncle Valentine! Up! Up! Up!"

And so there was Valentine, being assaulted by little pink humany things that were thankfully not his own, considering the "Uncle" they used before the "Valentine."

He wasn't the praying sort, but he'd be thanking someone out there very profusely right now if he was.

"Up, up? The sky is up. It's an odd shade of blue, isn't it? You're pulling on my coat, you know." And here was Valentine, bending down to accommodate the pair of crawly things. "Whose are you?"

"I'm Mommy's Girl!" Sang out the little girl pink one. "I like your coat. Can I have a coat like yours when I'm big?"

"Can I have a mask? I know, I know, it's your face but it's a mask and it's cool and a maaaaask!" JJ said, trying to clambor up the Valentine-Gym for a better view.

Valentine was at an impasse, here. He was being smothered in little children. So he was going to have to take desperate measures.

"I think we should play a game," he decided suddenly. "I'll point at you with one hand, this one," he wiggled his right hand, "and you have to tell me your name. And I'll point at you with the other hand, this one," he wiggled his left, "and you'll say your parents' names. And whoever does a better job of it will get to keep a mask. How does that sound?"

"AWESOME!" Maria hollered. "Me first! Me first!"

JJ grinned. He liked games. "Sounds good," he said with a nod.

He was gonna spit on his hand so they could shake on it, but his mom was trying to wean him off of it.

He was so gonna win!

"Hmmm, now who to choose, who to choose..." Valentine lifted his left hand and waved it about a bit thoughtfully before pointing at the little girl first.

With his right hand. Just to keep things interesting. Name?

"My name is Maria Burton!" she curtsied politely and gave her best angelic smile. Ha! See her brother beat that!

Re: simulation one -- the park

What was the matter with people around here? Everyone's names were so very boring. Nothing as romantic as 'Valentine,' really. He had hoped that this might be remedied by the next generation, but alas, apparently it was not meant to be.

"And a perfectly lovely name it is, Maria," he lied with a grin. "Okay, round two!" He waved his arm about again, and this time his right hand settled on the boy.

Disclaimer: Opinions of the Valentine about names do not reflect the thoughts of the management. Valentine is an arse.

"Jack! Jack Junior, but you can call me JJ. Everyone does," he said, making a flourish (it looked like a dying fish) with his left before sticking his right out for a handshake.

The girl who stepped out of the vortex was oddly precocious. Her curly brown hair reached to her waist, and she looked around the room as if she were cataloguing its contents for her own purposes.

The smile she gave Valentine was almost eerily calm. And slightly bemused. "Hullo, Dad."

On her feet were two rabbity-type creatures ...

Valentine wanted to curl up in a ball and hide, now. Because the rabbity-type creatures and the dark hair and-

A wee little ball, somewhere far, far away. Perhaps if he were to inch backward a little, the girl wouldn't notice and he'd escape unscathed.

The twitchiness did not seem to faze her. Suffice to say, she was used to it.

"Are we going somewhere?" she asked, keeping step with him. She looked around the room again. "Are we in a school? Why are we in a school?"

"We're in a school because some of us happen to require advanced education to make up for the fact that learning opportunities where I'm from are rare at best." Still inching backward. Slowly. Maybe if he went slowly enough, she'd forget to follow him at all. "Do you always wear the dead rabbity-creatures on your feet? Your mother must have given those to you. I wouldn't ever have. Take them off?"

Re: simulation one -- the park

[identity profile] palestshadow.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"But you already know how to juggle." She appeared to consider keeping pace with him to be a game. "What else do you need, really? And they keep my feet warm. Mum says you're always very silly about slippers. If I take them off, then my feet will be cold and I shan't enjoy that very much."
dark_slippy_thing: (Horror!)

Re: simulation one -- the park

[personal profile] dark_slippy_thing 2007-10-25 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Valentine was feeling a bit of a case of cold feet, himself.

"What else does 'Mum' say I'm always very silly about, dare I ask?" This was not possible this was not at all possible this was just a computer-thingie thingie and he did not ever have any potential to have a child with Helena. He did not. "Please tell me your mother is Naminé."

... Right. Okay. Moving on, then.

"You know, I never did catch your name." And of course, Valentine felt very stupid the moment that he let that slip out of his mouth. But at least it was a change of topic.

Re: simulation one -- the park

[identity profile] palestshadow.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The girl folded her arms, huffily. "You know my name. Why are you acting strange today? Mum says you're always strange and then you call her unpleasant names. And then she calls you unpleasant names, but she's got the sense to wait until you've left the room. I think perhaps she's smarter than you are."

Re: simulation one -- the park

[personal profile] dark_slippy_thing 2007-10-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"She calls me unpleasant names?" It was always good to know these things. One never knew what the creator of one's world thought about you behind your back from another universe. Perhaps he could use the child as a double-agent. Not that it would really do much good? But he was curious. "Such as what?"

"I'm craven and conniving, now? I suppose that beats being a pathetic creep. I've been promoted." He stopped his retreat and leaned forward a little. "Now, assuming that I've gone absolutely barking mad and I really don't know your name, what would you tell me if I asked for it?"
