Fandom Invasions Class #7 (Thursday period 3)

When the students filed into the Danger Shop they found two young girls standing with John in the usual lecture spot.

"Hi," the older one said, bouncing a little on her toes. "I'm Susannah Lynn and this is my half-sister Grace. Dad asked us to help him with this class since it's all about us.

"See, there was this big swirling thing, a..... vortex?" She looked up at John for confirmation of the word, grinning when he nodded and then continuing. "And a bunch of us kids got pulled through it and came to Fandom and got to meet our parents before they were our parents. It was really freaky and a little scary, but it was also a lot of fun." She giggled. "Seeing everybody's face when they realised we were their kids was really really funny.

"It was so much fun, that Dad decided that you should get a chance to play too! Isn't that great?" She turned and looked up at John again. "This is where you take over, right?"

John smiled and nodded. "It is. Thanks, Susannah." He addressed the class. "Fandom is always throwing the unexpected at you. And sometimes that isn't a hostile invasion. Sometimes it's the next generation. The object this class isn't to fight the invaders, but look after them. Keep them amused, fed, make sure they go to bed on time... you know. Be parents. And then make sure they get back to where they're supposed to be."

Grace pulled on John's pantleg. "Daddy? I wanna colour!"

John picked her up and smiled wryly at the class. "Sometimes it's easier to just beat something up."

....that might not have been the brightest thing Valentine's done today. Because that lead to two child-things racing around him, flapping one arm (holding the masks on with the other) and making screechy monkey noises.

Oh, and chanting "Bob!" repeatedly.

They did rather good monkeybird impressions, Valentine noted. Perhaps all children did. Maybe monkeybirds were just children who got lost in transition from 'child' to 'functional member of society.'

Not that Valentine had ever really become a functional member of society, but that was neither here nor there.

"I hope you don't expect me to juggle bananas, now," he mused.

"Yes, yes, Bob Bob Bob, Bob Bob, Malcolm." Valentine mimed thumping some invisible monkeybird upside the head, then grinned and shrugged. "I'm fresh out of bananas, sorry."

"Bob bob bob BOB bob Bob Bob!"
"Aw, you're out of bananas?" Jack whined asked.
"We should get you bananas, so you could juggle!" Maria exclaimed. "Bob!"
"Bob!" Jack agreed, then started chasing her around Valentine again, both starting up the "Bob!" chant.

And then, because they are twins and don't need to speak, they tackleglomped the Valentine. "We miss you lots!" said Maria. "You need to visit moooooore!" said Jack. "Cutest puppy dog eyes evaaaar!" said their faces.

Valentine was a juggler. Valentine wasn't an acrobat. So, when he was dual-tackled by a pair of clingy children, Valentine did the only thing he possibly could do.

"Aaah!" He stumbled, flailed his arms about, and fell onto his arse. And then proceeded to stare at the disgustingly adorable children-things. "I can try! I can try!"

"Oh, no!" cried JJ. "We broke UncaValentiiiine!" Leaping on to the poor knocked-over student and checking for a pulse didn't help. "Call for a medic!"

"I'll give him a cootie shot!" shouted Maria, who grabbed Valentine's hand, chanting "Circle circle dot dot now you've had a cootie shot!"

"Thank you?" Valentine didn't know what a cootie was, but if a cootie shot was intended to make him unbroken, then who was he to complain?

There were children crawling on him. He wasn't sure if the cootie shot had worked or not, really.
