Library: Friday [14.09]

Karal had come prepared this week, where prepared meant more tea and slightly fewer books. Once the library was set up, he opened the doors and settled behind the desk, writing diligently in his notebook.

:You look busy.: Altra strolled in and leapt onto the desk, making himself comfortable.

Karal stared. "Where have you been!"

:Around,: was all the reply he got as Altra rolled onto his side and went to sleep.

"Wonderful," Karal muttered, and went back to writing.

Evie came in to return the magazines she'd borrowed (and really, they had been *very* helpful) and to pick up the book that Adah had said she'd leave for her. She looked around, worried for a moment, and then approached the desk to see if anyone was sitting on the floor behind it. "Hello?" She looked at Altra, and cocked her head. Karal had to be around somewhere, if Altra was still here....

"Hello, Altra," Evie said in resignation, reaching out to scratch his ears, if he was amenable. "It's a shame that you can't check books out to me. Adah was supposed to leave the most fascinating book on viruses and fungi for me to check out, but I don't think going behind the counter to find it would be a good idea." She contemplated the possibility with a certain thoughtfulness. "Although--" She peeked over the counter, hoping to catch a glimpse of it.

If she didn't check it out, and just read it in the Library... well, that wasn't breaking any rules, was it?

"What are you... oooo!" Evie bounced, then plopped down on the floor as the virus book went skidding off the pile and to the carpeting. "You clever, clever Altra! I will certainly have to find you a catnip toy the next time I go into Turtle & Canary!"

Evie was much too far gone in book glee to even question what Altra had just done. If she'd thought about it, she might have just assumed that Karal had told Altra not to touch the books, and that Altra, being a cat, had decided to do what had been forbidden or prevented previously. She settled in against the library counter, book in her lap, and continued to pet Altra. When she got to the interesting bits, she read them aloud and showed him the pictures. Especially the ones about coffin dirt, yay!

Not that he'd understand any of it.

Evie watched him for a moment, but was then sucked back into the discussion of Queen Hatshepsut's curse (or rather, the microorganisms that reportedly made everyone on the dig ill when they opened her tomb), and left Altra to his own devices.

He was a cat, after all. Karal wouldn't expect her to watch him.
