"Good morning, class," Lulu said, leaning against the front of her desk as they entered. "I hope you had a pleasant weekend." She gestured towards a doll-like figure that stood upon her desk beside her. "This is Onion Knight," she continued. "He may not look like much, but he is a good friend of mine, and will be assisting some in the class." The doll-like figure suddenly moved, waving at the class, before returning to an inert state.

"Today," Lulu continued, "as you may recall from the syllabus, we're going to discuss some of the basics of human sexual anatomy. I have prepared a packet for you detailing some of this information, which I trust you will find most informative.

"In this class, we're not going to discuss these organs in minute detail; certainly, it's important to understand your body when having sex, to help you understand your own reactions. However, we'll be spending just this one class on the specifics of anatomy, mostly to give you a basic grounding for our further topics."

Oh yes, there was some blushing going on when Gavin read through the packets. Honestly, he had no trouble going to war, killing the enemy but discussion of body parts made him blush like nothing else.

Inara was leafing through her packets, but since she already knew the information and was more confused by this century's morality, was taking the time to observe everyone else's reactions.

During one of the times he had to stop and take a moment, he caught her eye and smiled a little.

"Hey," he said quietly.

"Hey," she smiled tentatively at him.

He tapped a finger against his desk, a nervous habit more than anything. "How are you?"

She wasn't sure when this had gotten so awkward. "Fine. Yourself?"

He thought about giving the placating answer but that'd just serve to make the awkward continue.

"Confused," he admitted. "Are you avoiding me?"

"No, of course not." Okay, she had, a little bit. She hadn't wanted to have the conversation with Gavin--hadn't wanted to hear him call her a whore. Not him. "I'm sorry if I confused you."

"No, it wasn't you," he said quietly, dropping his voice. "There's...a lot of stuff in my head right now. I think we need to talk."

She sighed, but then nodded. "You're probably right."

"Okay." He took a breath. "Maybe tomorrow? Or Wednesday?"

"Tomorrow?" Better to rip the bandage off all at once, she'd found. Cleaner that way.

"Tomorrow," he said. "After classes? I'll be in my room, hanging out."

She nodded, relieved their discussion would take place in private. "Yes, that's fine."

"Okay." He wanted to say other things but they were in class and he didn't want to embarrass her. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow," she promised, her stomach already tightening with nerves.

He smiled again, softer this time before turning back to the packets. And then he just decided to ignore the packets and stare into space.

Inara went back to reviewing her own packets, but not because she was trying to avoid looking at Gavin and sighing wistfully or anything. That would just be silly.
