Library: Friday [07.09]

Karal had gotten the phone call last night, and he was a little nervous about being in charge of the library.

He was quite probably the only person ever to bring a stack of books with him to open it.

Molly grinned up at him. "So you wouldn't mind if I came to visit you when you work every week?"

"I would like that very much," he replied. "If you'd like, you could have lunch with me? The library is closed, but I could let you in."

"That would be fun!" she said, grinning more. "I'd like that a lot."

"So would I." he moved back, but kept hold of her hand. "Would you walk me to the causeway tomorrow?"

Molly nodded. "Of course I will."

"Thank you. I imagine Altra is going to be less than complimentary about taking a portal, but it will be much better than being left with Jump Sickness!"

"Yes," Molly agreed. "Especially when you've been getting sicker every time."

He touched his stomach in involuntary memory. "Altra believes it is because the Mage Storms are getting worse. They are making it harder for him to Jump between worlds."

"And you're going back to try and help fix that, right?"

He lifted one shoulder. "If I am able."

"Will it be all work when you're there?" Molly asked, a little unsure to touch on this subject. "Do you have any friends there?"

"I do not know, Molly." He looked down at their hands. "I did have some friends in Valdemar, Natoli and An'desha, but I am not permitted to tell anyone I am here, so they likely think I have just been avoiding them."

Molly tightened her hold on his hand slightly and hugged him with her other arm. "I'm sorry, my Karal. I wish you could tell them. I wish I could go with you. You will have to make Altra let you hug him."

"You can tell him that," Karal said lightly, leaning into her. "And it does not matter. Florian knows, I can go and spend time in Companion's Field with him until it is time to return."

"Which hopefully won't be long," Molly said with a nod. She sighed. "I'm going to miss you."

"And I you." He straightened and smiled. "But I am sure the most that will happen is I will sit through an interminable Council meeting, write endless dispatches to Her Radiance, about the situation in Valdemar and here, and then I will be sent back."

So did Karal, very much, even as he doubted it would happen that way. Altra, and Vkandis, would not be bringing him back simply for that. But he just smiled and very lightly kissed her.

Molly's return kiss was just as light this time. "I should let you get back to work," she said.

"There is much to be done, and there are so many sections I have not yet looked at." He was beaming as he said that, very excited. "Glory, Molly, there are books here on subjects I have ever even heard of!"

Wow, he was cute.

"How big is the stack of books you've picked out to take home?" Molly teased. "Need me to carry them for you?"

"None yet," he said, blushing a little. "But I do not have to, because I get to spend every Friday here."

"Good point!" Molly said before giving him a look of speculation and letting go of his hand. "Time for you to work!"

She went around to the front of the desk and folded her hands on top of it. "Hi!" she said with a grin. "I was wondering if you could recommend a book."

He quickly covered a laugh, then put on his most solemn expression. "What sort of book are you interested in? Do you wish a tale, or would you prefer something from the reference section?"

Molly put one finger to her chin in a pretense of thought. "Well, my boyfriend is going to be gone part of this weekend so I think I'll need a distraction." She dropped her hand and grinned at him. "A tale, please."
