Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Zoe was very impressed with how well the construction people had done in rebuilding the school, and the grounds had been cleared just in time for the picnic to welcome the new students and teachers. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs, one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. Part two is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"Not often enough to send students running home," John didn't want to freak Lee out too much.

"So, you have any special skills or powers?" John was always curious about this part of getting to know the newbies.

"I can't fly or anything," he said, laughing at his own stupid joke. "Well, not without a ship."

"Yeah," Lee nodded. "Not that I have a ship here but back on Caprica, yeah, I could fly. They wouldn't let me bring one here."

"That's too bad," John was always disappointed to hear people couldn't bring their ships with them. "I'm training to be a pilot myself, just not in space."

"Back home I flew small planes and helicopters, but here I took the Flight class and we flew X-Wings, an F-16, pod racers, speeders, swoop bikes, a Starfighter, and a large shuttle. It was great," John grinned. "That class was awesome."

"Yeah, sorry," John said. "But I hear Prof. Skywalker is pretty nice about letting trained people use the sim." Or maybe that was just Jaina.

"Damn." He'd have to ask this Skywalker person sometime later. "So, what's a big brother supposed to do? We don't have to, you know, stay attached to each other, do we?"

"I think I'm supposed to be helpful and answer questions," John replied. "But really, I'm just an acquaintance they force on you so they can say, 'look he has a friend the first day!'"

"A need so I don't get fired from big brotherdom," John grinned. "They're all about the touchy feely. We should just be glad there's no enforced hugging. Though I hear that's in the works."
