Accelerated Scouting: Tuesday, Period Five, Week Five

Dale has set up the main campire area to actually be... lots of little campfire areas.

There's also a heap of moddable food and cooking equipment sitting on the picnic tables.

"Today kids we are going to be making ourselves some dinner," Dale said with a grin. "But you are going to have to work for it."

He pointed to the fire rings around them. "You're going to cook over an open fire. A fire that you have to start without any matches, lighters, spells or what not. So come on kids! Let's see what you got!"

River looked miserable. "I couldn't think of anything."

"I offered to let my teammate crash with me if she needed to," Bridge says. He's not going to mention that the reason she might need to was to avoid getting in trouble for breaking a newly-created rule from their oh-so-temporary replacement Principal.

"I forgot to do something last week," Liz admitted.

"I made the cheerleading squad?" Claire offers.

"That's like spirit and stuff. Totally citizenship."

"I refused to abandon my roommate. If I had abandoned him, he would be lonely and sad, which would make me a bad citizen," Z said. Never mind that her refusal went directly against Temporary Principal Umbridge's new rules.

Troy frowned a moment; he'd totally forgotten to actually do the assignment. "Well, we had a rehearsal for the play I'm directing?" he half-asked, hoping it would count. He tried to channel his inner Darbus. "Fostering the arts encourages creativity in youth and helps develop political expression, which can highlight the strengths and weaknesses in a political system, which means that those strengths can then be encouraged and the weaknesses corrected."

No, he's not quite sure where that came from, either, but he's pretty sure it sounds good.

In a series of yips and barks, Dean detailed his stealing and shooting of kitten plates as an act of protest against tyranny.

Of course since he was a wolf, it was debatable how much of that actually got across.

"I spoke to the Acting Principal in order to voice my displeasure at her bigotry and small-mindedness, and more specifically, the policies she is enacting to enforce such," Naminé said. "And then I attended a civil disobedience-style protest."

"I serve my country every day by helping to keep our economy strong and running not only by providing goods to the general populous through my store, but also by being active in the stock market, even through these shaky times." Turtle nodded, proudly. After all, there was nothing more American than money. In her opinion.

River knew about this in theory. She picked up some dry twigs and leaves, then found a stone. She tried creating sparks by striking the stone against her pen knife.

Since she couldn't use her own fire power Liz got what she needed to make the fire and she began trying unsuccesfully to make one from the stones that she was using.

Starting fires was something that Dean was usually pretty good at. Of course that's when he had opposable thumbs.

Still, thumbs or no thumbs, Dean wasn't a quitter. Which was why there was a wolf holding a knife in his mouth and trying to strike sparks off the flint into a pile of soft grass kindling.

"Hi, Agent Cooper!" Turtle gave him a small smile as she came to talk to him after class. "I'm afraid I have some bad news."
