Library [07/15]

The library was open again and there was plenty of coffee for all. Don't get it on the books.

[ETA: After this thread the library would be barricaded up to defend against raptors.]

Ed hadn't found anything that he thought was going to be useful - at least not to this particular problem though his notebook was littered with page references to be followed up on later. He kept plowing through the books though, wishing more than a few times that he could have been reading alchemy books. So much more interesting.

Sipping coffee, Zack opened yet another book. It was entirely possible he'd spent most of the night reading.

Naomi continued to read through several books. She was still hoping that she'd find something useful.

Hermione's managed to fill a few pages in what's been privately deemed her invasion notebook, as it's got research notes from mummies and trolls already, but she's not sure there's anything really useful.

Though she has learned quite a lot about dinosaurs now.

She's at a table, a pile of books that she looked through yesterday on one side of her, a pile that she still needs to go through on her other.

Evie now had funny hair from falling asleep on a book. She was yawning but gamely drinking coffee and still reading, with the occasional side foray into history other than Fandom's when it seemed relevant.

At some point during the wee hours of the morning, Rodney had fallen asleep with his head on a table. The smell of coffee woke him and he immediately went to fill himself a cup. Once he'd taken a few large drinks, he muttered something about irreparable damage to his spine and went back to his research.

Evie was beginning to jitter a bit from caffiene overload, and finally had to get up and walk around to work the coffee nerves off. "Are you making any progress?" she asked Rodney as she wandered by.

Re: Morning

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-07-15 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Rodney looked up at Evie. "No," he pushed away the book he had been reading. "I haven't found anything to explain how a temporal disturbance on this scale could happen without draining the power on the entire eastern seaboard and I think we would have heard about it even out here if that had occurred." It would be hard to tell if the caffeine was making Rodney talk faster than normal as this speed was pretty much his default setting.

"What about you? Any luck?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-07-15 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing about dinosaurs." Evie threw her hands up, and shook her head vehemently. "All sorts of things appearing and disappearing at random, with varying levels of reliability and verifiability, but no, no dinosaurs. I am beginning to wonder if everyone was eaten or left the island the last time this happened. If it ever happened. And if it never happened before, how on Earth do we make it stop?"

Evie tends to match her speed to whoever's talking to her, so while she didn't quite catch all of what Rodney said, it tended to crank her internal engine up another few notches.

"Right," Rodney pointed at Evie. "This sort of thing seems to happen on a regular basis around here but I haven't seen a reference to anything even approaching this scale. The small stuff is almost easy to explain in comparison, however, the relative size, quantity and temporal distance in this case are unheard of." He looked into his empty cup and sighed. "We're no closer to an answer than we were yesterday."

Dawn had fallen asleep under one of the research tables, her head on a pile of books. Sadly, she'd slept in worse places.

When she smelled coffee, she sat up (promptly bumping her head on the table, hi), and crawled out, dragging the books with her.

Nothing yet, but there was still hope. And coffee. And hopefully a toothbrush.

Karal arrived in the morning, by way of Jumping Firecat, and was sitting at a table, trying to find anything that might be useful. So far no luck, but he knew far more about dinosaurs than he'd ever wanted to. Including how many of them had very sharp teeth.

Altra was lying on the floor next to his chair.

Harriet strode into the libary, looking faintly concerned. She was actually very concerned, but there was no point wasting energy in worrying. Better to try and fix the problem, hence the library.

Surely the sensible people would be in the library. "I must say, dinosaurs are rather unexpected."

"I could almost agree with you," Fraser said, wandering in sans hat. "We've had invasions before but dinosaurs. That's different."

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Good afternoon, Mr Fraser," she said with a smile. "Almost?" One eyebrow went up slightly, then she shook her head. "Never mind. Much as I'd like to hear those stories, it can wait. The important question is how do we get rid of them? They're making quite a mess out there."

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"This is a subject I've very little knowledge on," Fraser said, frowning. "I've never dealt with dinosaurs in my time. From just the journey to get to the library, their are still large groups of them roaming around. Nothing seems to stop them."

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Nonsense," she replied briskly, but with an encouraging smile. "Everything can be stopped, Mr Fraser. It's just a matter of discovering how. Which is why the library is the sensible place to be."

"Actually, I think I found something," Hermione said, looking over an archaeology book one last quick time to make sure she had it right. "I found something about an arrangement of smooth stones and some sort of tablet that described their use. Supposedly they kept the dinosaurs that roamed Fandom at bay, and were buried to keep anyone from tampering with them."

Re: Eureka

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
The words 'smooth stones' caught Fraser's attention and he immediately got a very, very swimmy feeling in his stomach.

"Smooth stones, you say?" He looked over at Harriet. "Those...might have been discovered."

Re: Eureka

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Harriet looked back at him. "Discovered." A sinking feeling was creeping up on her. Friday, the dinosaurs had appeared Friday, and it had been a long time since she'd believed in coincidence. "Perhaps at the bottom of a hole?" she suggested gently.
