Library [07/14]

Dinosaurs were not part of the craze in her timestream where people brought extinct animals back through cloning. Thursday, however, had dealt with dinosaurs in her time inside fiction and didn't particularly feel like trying to negotiate with sharp teeth this time. So she packed up Friday and Pickwick, locked up the house, left a note for her housemates letting them know what was going on and where she was going and headed to the library. Friday would have been out of there and off to Mrs Bradshaw's in as much time as it takes to say 'I was in a long, dark, wood-panelled corridor', but the BookWorld was dealing with its own problems right now.

Fairly certain that the dinosaurs wouldn't be able to read, Thursday closed the doors up and put a note on the front saying 'open, knock or shout first', put Friday, his toys and Pickwick down where she could see them and set about trying to find out how exactly dinosaurs had shown up overnight without a fuss and how to get them to go away again.

"Obviously, seeing as they're still here." Rodney snarked. He lifted one of the books on Hermione's table and started to flip through it. "Has anyone thought to notify the U.S. military? They are known for their really big guns."

"I assume if any notifications were done, the administation did it," Hermione says. "And honestly? There may be just as many really big guns on the island already."

"Well, that's good to know. Not that I would count on them to actually get here in time or really be able to do anything to help. This seems to be a little outside their skill set." Rodney continued looking through the book.

"I've been learning a bit about dimensional portals and time travel since I got here and I think one of those could explain how this happened. If we can figure out what exactly triggered it, maybe we can use the same thing to send them back." And because he was a bit of a paranoid pessimist, Rodney added, "doing something else will probably just lead to a worse situation developing. I hate to imagine what that might be." But it was too late and he was already picturing fire-breathing dragons flying over the island and munching on terrified students.

"There are ways to keep a time travel situation from getting worse, but I doubt dinosaurs could be taught how, nor would they care," she said. "But that's a good theory. I don't know why I didn't think of it."

"Let's hope the solution doesn't require us to teach the dinos anything, eh?" Rodney thought Hermione was somewhat intelligent and he believed that should be encouraged, especially since she'd acknowledged his theory as being good. He therefore refrained from mentioning that he had thought of it because he was smarter than everyone else. "Yes, well, I'm sure it would have come to you sooner or later. Do you have any other working theories?"

"Based on experience, it could likely be magic, but it doesn't exactly fit," she says. "Still, it's so common I'm not entirely willing to rule it out so far."

"Huh, I'm still not quite used to magic being common. I think I should stick to my own area of expertise for the time being." He pulled over one of the texts dealing with converging timestreams that Ms. Next had pointed him to and started reading.
