Firearms and You #1 (Thursday, period 2)

The Danger Shop was set up like an outdoor target range. Off to the side was a table set up with the sign-in sheet, several handouts, and an urn of coffee.

"Good morning," John greeted the class. "Welcome to Firearms and You. What you should come away from this workshop with is the knowledge of how to take care of and fire various types of guns and the confidence to know when, and more importantly when not to use them.

"You've picked up two handouts; the first one is a general overview of firearms, the history and different types, a number of which you'll have a chance to try out in this class. The second is about gun safety. I expect you all to read it and follow the rules it lists. Not doing so will have consequences ranging from detention to being asked to leave the range for the rest of that class -- or longer for repeated violations." John paused and looked around, trying to figure out which would be the ones most tempted to break the rules. "We're not dealing with toys here and I expect you all to treat the guns as the weapons they are.

"Now for this first session, I'd like to get to know you and what experience you already have. So we're going to go around and have each person give their name and, if you feel capable, step up to the range and demonstrate what you can do. The computer will provide whatever weapon you ask for." He paused. "'I don't have experience' is a perfectly acceptable response."

John looked around and smiled. "So who is going first?"

[ooc: wait for OCD's up. Have at it.]

Prue was looking over her handouts and underlined important parts of them.

He was a little sober-looking today, but he knew better than to not pay attention when firearms were being dealt with, virtual or not -- so Anders was paying close attention to both the lecture and the gun safety handout.

Setsuna, as usual, is paying very close attention to the lecture as well as the handouts.

This was the first time Dean had got to see his Dad in official teacher mode. It was remarkably similar to his 'train his sons to hunt' mode, so Dean was feeling right at home.

Just with a few more people getting taught alongside him than he was used to.

Charlie was concentrating extra-hard, looking over the hand-outs, and underlining things, and listening to Mr. Winchester.

Sokka looked over the Gun Safety handout. It was pretty much the same as what was posted up in the firing range -- guns are dangerous weapons, not toys, yadda yadda yadda, don't be stupid.

That wasn't going to stop him from having fun, though.

"Hi, I'm Prue Halliwell and I don't have much experience with firearms." she said. Explaining that the only time she used a gun was when she went back into the old west with a demon to save her sister seemed like a little too much work for her taste. "So I think I'll pass on the demonstration today."

"My name is Setsuna Sakurazaki," she nodded to the class as she introduced herself, "and my experience with guns is relatively limited and new. My...partner was always the one using the firearms; I was a swords expert, so I never bothered learning, but using them recently in Deadpool's class, I've decided to try to get a stronger base in using them, just in case a situation comes up where my sword is not available, but a gun is. One can never be too prepared."

"Sam Anders, but just Anders pretty much," he offered. "I started out learning how to handle a Glock 9mm in one of my workshops from last summer, but after a couple semesters in Gun Club I've sort of switched over to a Walther P99 and a SIG-Sauer 226. I tried an assault rifle, once, during the troll invasion, but so far I'm only really comfortable with handguns, and that, pretty much, just on the range."

"I'm Naomi Wildman," Naomi said, "My experience with firearms is pretty limited but I am trained to be able to use a phaser,"

"Hi, I'm Charlie McGee," Charlie gave a little wave, "And my experience with firing guns has been limited to Professor Deadpool's course. I'd like to get comfortable enough not to be nervous around them." Since most of her experience was about other people firing guns at her, not the reverse.

"I'm Savannah Levine and the only experience I have with any kind of firearms is the fire I conjure myself. I've never used a gun, but some certain family members of mine have suggested I learn."

"I'm Dean Winchester and I'm probably as comfortable with guns as you can get without giving them names and taking them to bed with you. I had my first lesson when I was six and was informed that I was a natural." He grinned at his father. "Guess I come by it naturally. I haven't had much chance to try some of the more esoteric stuff before so I'm looking forward to that."

"I'm Sokka, of the Water Tribe," Sokka said, standing up. "My world doesn't have firearms, but I was in the gun club in spring, and I took Deadpool's mercenary class last session, and I was in your class where you introduced us to the wondrous beauty that is a shotgun." He grinned and bounced excitedly a little. "I'm not all that great, yet, but I can hit the target."

Feeling confident enough in her brief experience to at least give a demonstration (she figured it wouldn't hurt to let Professor Winchester know where she was at, either), Setsuna took up a gun and shot a few at the target. It wasn't the most impressive shooting, but it was solid, if not entirely accurate. She certainly focused very carefully and seemed to be trying very hard to get over her small moment of cringing whenever she pulled the trigger.

Charlie stepped up, being extra careful, checking the safety, clearly uncomfortable with the firearm, slow to get into position, and then firing the gun at the target. Not very well, although at least the bullets hit the paper.

A bass line, simultaneously haunting and fast-paced, kicked in as Sokka picked up a handgun and strode up to the range.

I wish I would've met you
now it's a little late.
what you could've taught me
I could've saved some face
they think that your early ending
was all wrong
for the most part they're right
but look how they all got strong
that's why I say hey man, nice shot
what a good shot man.

Sokka emptied the clip into the target as fast as he could and turned and grinned like a madman. Every bullet had hit the target, and at least a quarter of them were very close to the center.
