The Danger Shop was set up like an outdoor target range. Off to the side was a table set up with the sign-in sheet, several handouts, and an urn of coffee.

"Good morning," John greeted the class. "Welcome to Firearms and You. What you should come away from this workshop with is the knowledge of how to take care of and fire various types of guns and the confidence to know when, and more importantly when not to use them.

"You've picked up two handouts; the first one is a general overview of firearms, the history and different types, a number of which you'll have a chance to try out in this class. The second is about gun safety. I expect you all to read it and follow the rules it lists. Not doing so will have consequences ranging from detention to being asked to leave the range for the rest of that class -- or longer for repeated violations." John paused and looked around, trying to figure out which would be the ones most tempted to break the rules. "We're not dealing with toys here and I expect you all to treat the guns as the weapons they are.

"Now for this first session, I'd like to get to know you and what experience you already have. So we're going to go around and have each person give their name and, if you feel capable, step up to the range and demonstrate what you can do. The computer will provide whatever weapon you ask for." He paused. "'I don't have experience' is a perfectly acceptable response."

John looked around and smiled. "So who is going first?"

"You suck at lying."

"Yes, little sis, and you love me for it," he replied calmly.

"Yes, because I have been lied to enough in my life, however, that doesn't change the fact that you're not right and thus, a worried Savannah."

"I'll be fine, I promise," he told her. "Just heard something that was kind of unexpected and it's got me down, but . . . it'll get better. That's the theory anyway."

"What happened?"

Anders took a breath, thinking of how to explain without actually saying the words, because that just felt a little awkward. "You were at cheerleading practice, right?"

Savannah nodded. "Yeah. I was there... and then I saw Phoebe and Lana hightail it out of there as if they were on fire."

"Yeah." Anders stared at his hands. "It really sucks when you're feeling guilty about losing touch with someone you used to be friends with, and then finding out they're gone."

That might not have been the most delicate way he could have phrased that, but he meant it.

Savannah looked confused for a moment and then reached over to take his hand. "The guy who died?"

He nodded, and squeezed her hand with a tiny, grateful smile. "Yeah. I don't know exactly when the drifting thing happened, but I feel bad about it, now."

Savannah gave him a smile. "We never know or understand how that happens. It's one of those things about life I would change if I could."

"Thanks, little sis," Anders said quietly.

"You know I'm here for you no matter what."

"And you know I'll return the favor, right?" he countered.

Savannah nodded, a slight blush on her cheeks.

Anders quirked an eyebrow at her in amused interest, but didn't say anything.

"I'm going to ask someone out today."

"He better not be anybody I might have to beat up later."

"Well, it was Wyatt's idea... someone he trusts around me?"

"Ah, then I shouldn't have to worry about you too much," Anders said. "Wyatt's an awesome guy, he won't let you get hurt either. What's the lucky guy's name?"

She smiled at him. "Chris Halliwell."

Anders went very slightly bug-eyed at that, maybe because he still hadn't gotten over some of the things Chris had said about his relationship with Phoebe and Bel.

"Um. Okay. Yeah, you'll be fine."

"Come by my room tomorrow and I'll tell you if it went alright?"

"I'll be there to check up on you, yeah," Anders promised.

"Cool. I have my Opposite Sex workshop in the morning and then I'll be in the dorms."
