Freelance Treasure Hunting, Monday, Period 5, Class #4

"Good afternoon, my minions," Vala greeted everyone cheerfully from her customary spot atop the desk. "I'm glad to see you all back after last week's adventures. Last week, you escaped with your treasure, or without your treasure, depending on how things went. However, that doesn't always happen."

She leaned forward and confided, "Sometimes, you get caught. And occasionally even incarcerated, or held by the planetary authorities. This is when the real fun starts, because you have to be able to get yourself out of this situation--the problem is that often, you're locked in a small cell with no one but yourself and a guard for company."

"Then, the moment of truth...er, well, the person in charge shows up. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in that cell--which, trust me, you don't, they smell unbelievably strange, get very little daylight, and often have vermin--you need to be able to tell a convincing story, whether true or," she cleared her throat and looked extra-innocent, "augmented, that will get you out of there."

"Sooooo," Vala grinned at them and leaned back on her hands, "Today, I want you to talk your way out of trouble. Either pick a partner or try to convince me. Anything that gets the other person to believe you and let you out of your 'cell'," she made finger quotes and everything, "is good enough for me. Go to it, and remember to do your best!"

"Okay. That should be fine." Evie cleared her throat. "Right, then. You are in very grave trouble, young lady."

She might be trying to channel her mother.

After taking a moment to crack her knuckles (and nervously run her hands over her hair), Turtle straightened her back and looked for someone to part up with. Her excitement was evident. She was really good at this sort of thing!

At least, she thought she was really good at this sort of thing!

Savannah was curious as to how she wold do against others taking this class, so she smiled at Turtle. "Need a partner?"

Turtle gave a smile back. "Suuuuure!" But before they got to that, she offered her hand. "I'm Turtle. I don't think we've actually had a chance to meet yet?"

"Turtle," she introduced herself in return. "As in, they call me Turtle, not that I'm one of the turtles, but you could have probably guessed that."

Roxas leans across and sort of taps Gavin on the shoulder.

"Mind partnering with me? I don't lie too well, so I don't think I'd ever be able to covince her in a million years."

"That's alright. I'm not good at telling when people are lying anyway."

He shrugs.

"So, you wanna go first, or will I?"

Gavin tried to think of some good lie. He wasn't good at lying.

"I'm from New York." Best he could think of, really.

"So am I!" Roxas replied, which is blatantly a lie. But he seems so cheerful about it. "So, what did you steal last week?"

Rikku considered. "I think I want to be the liar. I'm usually good at that." And then blinked her eyes and tried to look innocent. "I mean, not that I ever lie. Lying is for mean people, and I'm nice."

Isbael raised an eyebrow, "Of course you don't. I'm sure you had a perfectly legitimate reason for being in that locked room."

Rikku looked up, blinking in confusion. "Locked? It wasn't locked. Was someone supposed to lock it? I would never just - walk into a locked room, you know. But the door opened and I figured it had to be okay, because if I wasn't supposed to be in there, someone would have locked it."

She shook her head with a sigh. "Did you talk to the people who said they locked it? M-maybe they lied. That's an awful thing to suggest, I know, but ... I just don't understand, otherwise."
