Freelance Treasure Hunting, Monday, Period 5, Class #4

"Good afternoon, my minions," Vala greeted everyone cheerfully from her customary spot atop the desk. "I'm glad to see you all back after last week's adventures. Last week, you escaped with your treasure, or without your treasure, depending on how things went. However, that doesn't always happen."

She leaned forward and confided, "Sometimes, you get caught. And occasionally even incarcerated, or held by the planetary authorities. This is when the real fun starts, because you have to be able to get yourself out of this situation--the problem is that often, you're locked in a small cell with no one but yourself and a guard for company."

"Then, the moment of truth...er, well, the person in charge shows up. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in that cell--which, trust me, you don't, they smell unbelievably strange, get very little daylight, and often have vermin--you need to be able to tell a convincing story, whether true or," she cleared her throat and looked extra-innocent, "augmented, that will get you out of there."

"Sooooo," Vala grinned at them and leaned back on her hands, "Today, I want you to talk your way out of trouble. Either pick a partner or try to convince me. Anything that gets the other person to believe you and let you out of your 'cell'," she made finger quotes and everything, "is good enough for me. Go to it, and remember to do your best!"

[ooc: OCD up in a sec! Let the lies begin!]

"You," Evie said sternly. "You're on those security tapes. Now. Please explain what you were doing."

Carmela taps her chin thoughtfully. "I'm not sure if I should be telling you this..." she says hesitantly.

"Oh, you can tell me anything," Evie said eagerly. "I just want to know what happened!"

"Well, do you have the proper clearance?" Carmela asks. "This is highly sensitive information."

"I wouldn't be interrogating you if I didn't have the clearance," Evie said sternly, even though that had her blinking a bit. "Now, now. Confess! We have to know these things!"

"I'm just saying, if you had the highest level of clearance, you'd probably already know what I was doing..."

Evie gave Carmela a firm look, and said, "But we need to know how things went wrong, don't we?" There, ha! That was what a spy type would say, wasn't it?

"Actually, I'd say they went rather well," Carmela says. There. That should shake things up a bit.

"Wait, you meant to get caught?" Evie stared her, floored. "Why on earth...?"

"Well of *course*!" Carmela says, as if it ought to be obvious. "How else was I supposed to inspect for possible flaws in your security measures?"

"Oh, dear. Wait. Wait! I wasn't informed of, of, any of this," Evie said, waving her arms. "And, and, who can I call to verify this? There should be someone to call, shouldn't there?"

"It wouldn't have been a very accurate inspection if people knew of it ahead of time, don't you think?"

"Well, no, perhaps not," Evie allowed, then firmed her chin. "But, see here! I need proof. Or, identification. Or a code, or something."

Carmela rummages through her pockets before coming up with... her library card, which she flashes quickly in Evie's direction.

Evie started giggling. Which she didn't mean to do, but-- "That should absolutely be adequate identification for me to let you go!"
