Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

Around dinner time on Friday, the main campfire was transformed. Leis and grass skirts were available to all. A pig was roasting kabobs. There was Hawaiian music playing from somewhere. There was also a limbo stick of doom. If you lost, you died.

Okay, that was just Drax's hope. He couldn't make it happen in reality. Woe.

He shook his head, "Supposed to be going out later tonight with my boss. Something about hunting for ghosts." He shrugged and grabbed a marshmallow, torching it and blowing on it before he shoved it in his mouth.

"What sort of ghosts?" Gavin said. "Or is it a secret?"

"No secret as far as I know. Just some haunted house apparently with haunted house kind of ghosts," he replied, though he really didn't know. "I don't know how many of us are going."

"Is it safe?" he asked. "For you all, I mean."

Johnny gave Gavin a sly grin, "Safe for me, which means safe for them. I'll keep a look out for any unfriendly ghosts." Johnny didn't believe in ghosts. Which...didn't seem right given the stories he's been told.

"Why, you wanna come hang out with us when we go?"

"I was curious," he said. "I've never seen a ghost myself but I've heard stories. I'm glad you guys will be safe. And...maybe. Depends."

"You got hot plans later?"

He really didn't. "Maybe." Of course, that would've been coy if Gavin knew how to be coy. Instead, it just sounded unsure.

"It might be thrilling," says Johnny who is an extreme sports fan. Ghost hunting might be as good as he can get for the next little while.

"Least I hope so," he shrugged, then stretched his arms over his head, arching his back to crack his spine. He was a little tense for some reason. "It's Friday night. Friday nights are all about the exicitemnt, right?"

"I lost track of days back home," he said with a shrug. "Days ran into each other for me."

"...which is where? Because if you told me the other night? I totally missed on it. I was worrying about trying to keep my cool."

"Oh, sorry," he said, laughing. "Tatooine. From the same galaxy as Jaina, actually. I flew X-Wings there."

"I gathered you were a pilot from class today," Johnny said, smiling. "But I am not familiar with X-Wings. You seemed pretty decent with that podracer and I especially liked that nice three-sixty maneuver." He laughed.

"Oh, thanks," Gavin answered, sarcasm evident and made a face. "X-Wings are fighter ships. Weapons and shields and maneuverability."

"I'm impressed, really. Wouldn't mind getting to see one of those sometime. The whole galaxy thing sort of gets in the way." Johnny said seriously, grinning. "Next week in Flight and Flying if we get to race? You and me, got it?"

"You're on," Gavin said, grinning. "I'd like to see what you've got."

He'll get the hang of innuendo one of these days.

"You like to gamble, Gavin?" Johnny asked. "Because when we're head to head, I think you'll be amazed to see just exactly what I've got."

Yeah.

"I think I'm good enough," Gavin said. "I've got the experience."

Yep.

"So do I, buddy," Johnny said. "In fact, I bet I'll blow your mind."

"Think so?" By this time, Gavin was wondering if they were still talking about flying but couldn't seem to stop the posturing.

Johnny wasn't too sure himself, and he wasn't about to be the one to cave. "What do you think, Gavin?"

"I think you're bluffing." It sounded good in his head.

"Is that right?" How long could this little game last?

"Bluffing or overestimating your abilities."

"You'll learn, Gavin, as you get to know me, that I never bluff. As far as my abilities go?" He shrugged. "You'll soon learn firsthand."
