Adventuring Survival Tactics, April 27. Period 4. Final
The Doctor had printed essay booklets at each desk, and even had number 2 pencils (Dixon Ticonderogas, to be specific) there as well.
The test booklet read as follows:
Short Answer
1. You run into a Dalek in a dark alley. What do you do?
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale?
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe?
4. Pie?
Long Answer
1. Describe in detail several stupid plans that could get you killed on an alien planet.
2. Describe in detail why getting killed is a bad plan.
3. Describe in detail the match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2009.
Hey. No one said the test would be fair.
The Doctor also had written 'Talking = Class Failure' and 'Cheating = Class Failure, Detention, Meeting the Principal'.
He was apparently a little cranky this morning. He was watching the classroom like a hawk. Best not to cheat or talk, then.
[ooc: OCD up. And thank you ALL for making a -wonderful- class this semester. You all deserve cookies and pie and cake.]

And he knew he got the pie answer right.

Re: Take the Test
Re: Take the Test
1. Run like hell.
2. Money and a guide.
3. Comfortable Shoes.
4. With ice cream please.
She gave detailed answers for question 1 & 2 however question 3 made her think a bit. She finally wrote Contact me in 2010.
Re: Take the Test
1. Run.
2. A towel.
3. A lot of pockets and shoes you know how to run in.
4. Yes, please.
As for the long answer, well, the first one included things like accidentally killing a member of the royal family, trying to get out of accidentally marrying a member of the royal family, and farting. The second one actually just boiled down to "because then you're dead and what's the use in that?"
And, the third one . . . well:
3. They lost. Both teams, actually, thanks to a random rift in the fabric of dimensional probability. Then the fans rioted and destroyed Manchester in its entirety. Most of the rest of the UK decided this was probably for the best, and they all lived happily ever after. The End
Re: Take the Test
Short Answer
1. Quip, run, quip.
2. Currency, proper clothing, water.
3. Sneakers.
4. Cherry.
Long Answer
1. Trying to overthrow the government. (Except, being Alanna, she went into more detail.)
2. Because then you're dead and can't do much of anything.
3. ...I'm from the 5th century. In a different world.
Re: Take the Test
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale? - Money, a guide, shelter
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe? -- sensible boots and a weapon that can be transported easily
4. Pie? -- Chocolate cream
Gwynn gave very detailed answers to 1 & 2... and made predictions on #3 since she had no idea what this was.

Re: Take the Test
You say run. I say there's nothing invented that a lightsaber can't kill.
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale?
Someone for whom the locale's not foreign. A protocol droid'll do in a pinch.
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe?
A lightsaber. It can kill things and open cans of rations. Very handy. You'd mentioned something about shoes, but I only have the one pair of boots anyway. They're not new.
4. Pie?
I suppose it could serve as a bribe to locals, emergency food or a surprise weapon of some kind. It wouldn't be first on my list, though. Traveling with it would require some special attention to make sure it didn't smush.
1. Describe in detail several stupid plans that could get you killed on an alien planet.
Luke's answer went into strategic detail (for pages and pages) about why underestimating aliens that look like teddy bears would lead to a disaster. Not that he was proud of the Ewoks or anything. He also included examples questioning whether using a planet entirely made of ice was the most strategic hidey-hole and made a passing aside about making sure to double check how to kill Sarlaacs before taking on gangsters.
2. Describe in detail why getting killed is a bad plan.
Luke went for a page and a half about how getting killed wasn't necessarily the end of the line, with many references to Ben Kenobi before deciding that this teacher would probably not appreciate his insights on that and crossing it all out.
His essay did end up with a decided slant that despite the Jedi Code of Combat's first rule (survive), sometimes self-sacrifice for the greater good was appropriate.
3. Describe in detail the match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2009.
His entire answer: Using the ability to see the future in order to discover the results of sporting events is stupid. I won't do it.
Sigh. Skywalkers.
[Somewhere in the B range, depending on how much the Doctor wants his own answers agreed with.]
Re: Take the Test
2) A towel, obviously, and a guide. Money is very helpful as well.
3) Sensible shoes that you can run in. (See question one)
4) I'd prefer a brownie, but chocolate cream pie with whipped cream would do in a pinch.
Long answer questions:
Lana wrote well-thought out, very detailed responses to the questions except for number 3 to which she answered: I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Burma! Sorry, I panicked. The better team almost won, but then didn't.
She was slightly distracted due to the presence of a grumpy and growly panther 'protecting' her.
[B- or C+ depending on how aggravated he is about her emo-ness the past two lessons]
Re: Take the Test
1. Somersault over it and run.
2. Edible food and trustworthy friends.
3. A comfortable dress and possibly boots.
4. I prefer ice cream.
Longer question number one received an elaborate answer, inspired by various jobs the Serenity crew had done. The second question had an introduction describing the physiologcal events taking place in the body upon death, described in some detail. It went on to analyze the possible outcomes on death, but the conclusion was: "possibly not knowing how things turned out."
The third left River blinking, as she had no idea what either Manchester United or Arsenal was, nor what kind of match this was supposed to be. Finally she shrugged and described a croquet game she'd played as a child instead, figuring it wouln't make that much difference.

Re: Take the Test
2. A (very) friendly local guide.
3. Whatever you think you're definitely not going to need, It always turns to be exactly what you wish you'd brought.
4. Hot apple with ice cream, thanks. And two forks.
Long Answer
1. Strangely enough, all of Jack's started with a smile, and ended with him running naked down an alley, pursued by armed guards.
2. Jack gave the expected answer, but also added: You're much less attractive when you're dead.
3. It's Manchester United, what more does anyone need to know?

Re: Take the Test
Re: Take the Test
2. Viable currency.
3. Pants.
4. What's in the pie?
1. Z did well on this section. It showed vivid imagination, possibly because she just imagined Sky as the guy getting himself killed.
2. Z explained that while getting killed was not necessarily the end of the line (citing examples from her history classes such as Kendrix and that guy Alex from the year 3000), it generally meant you missed out on a lot (such as the season finale of your favorite show or your friends blowing up the Megaship).
3. One of Z's foster dads had been a soccer fanatic, so somehow she actually knew this one and was able to answer it in some detail.

Re: Take the Test
2. Money, shelter, a guide
3. Comfortable shoes and maybe high heels as weapons
4. Apple!
Summer gave detailed answers for the first two. She had no idea how to answer the third one, so she simply wrote about the best team winning. She didn't actually say which team won, though.

Re: Take the Test
1. You run into a Dalek in a dark alley. What do you do?
Attack, if it looks wussy. If not, run away.
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale?
A weapon.
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe?
A weapon.
4. Pie?
LOTS!
Long Answer
1. Describe in detail several stupid plans that could get you killed on an alien planet.
Sokka took several pages describing several scenarios that basically boiled down to a) attacking someone who's a better fighter than you or b) not running away when appropriate.
2. Describe in detail why getting killed is a bad plan.
BECAUSE THEN YOU'RE DEAD.
3. Describe in detail the match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2009.
It was an exciting match, and the really famous people on each side scored lots of points, and in the end the better team won.

Re: Take the Test
2. Money, a guide,
piefood, shelter3.
A scarfA jacket4. Cherry.
For the long answer ones? The details about dying on a alien planet involved a lot of assassination plots and started to sound like a bad episode of <>Wormhole X-treme. The second one got a more serious answer about leaving people behind.
Number 3...
Rocks fall, everyone dies.
Re: Take the Test
Climb up a fire escape.
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale?
Local currency.
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe?
Pockets.
4. Pie?
Yes.
1. Describe in detail several stupid plans that could get you killed on an alien planet.
Tannim described a plan to frighten the local wildlife, a plan that involved making potentially obscene gestures in front of the ruler(s) and a plan that consisted of sitting around and doing absolutely nothing.
2. Describe in detail why getting killed is a bad plan.
Tannim discussed the difficulty of interacting with the world in spirt form.
3. Describe in detail the match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2009.
Tannim made up the details of a match and threw in the arrival of Daleks during the second half of the game.

Re: Take the Test
1. You run into a Dalek in a dark alley. What do you do?
Leave it there.
2. What's the most important thing to secure for yourself in a foreign locale?
Air.
3. What do you include in any proper adventuring wardrobe?
My thigh holster (http://pics.livejournal.com/dbiers/pic/0009w3k3/g2).
4. Pie?
Cake.
Long Answer
1. Describe in detail several stupid plans that could get you killed on an alien planet.
Any plans that include amazons, frogs, zombies, being weetiny, silence, cheerleading, seahorses, birthday dances, alcoholic gummi bears, coaches who dress in leather, and saying yes to vampires on an alien planet are stupid and might get you killed. However, they might also introduce you to some of the best friends you may ever know.
2. Describe in detail why getting killed is a bad plan.
Getting killed is a bad plan only when you haven't any replacement bodies on hand near by, otherwise, taking the risk might be worth it.
3. Describe in detail the match between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2009.
D's essay recap read like this:
[B-A]
Re: Take the Test
Short Answer
1. Run. A lot.
2. Food and currency. The currency helps with getting the food, even. And with finding someone to help, if you need someone.
3. Shoes. Good shoes. That are comfortable and unlikely to make you trip and die. Or fall in a hole and die.
4. Yes. Please.
Long Answer
1. Kissing a princess who happens to need to find someone with compatible DNA since her brother did something to her DNA to make that very difficult, so she couldn't produce an heir and therefore could not take over the throne. That can lead to the brother trying to have you killed, repeatedly. Or so I have heard. I wasn't there.
Anything involving any Scarran planet, ever. Scarrans are not known for not killing people with little reason. Or no reason.
Robbing a bank where someone who wants your brain for science experiments happens to keep his money can get you killed. Especially if the person who wants your brain for science experiments is there at the time and finds you, or your friends, and then captures you. And the bank, when it explodes, could kill you. It didn't. Luckily.
Of course, 10,000 others ended up dead for no reason...Of course, it also can lead to your ship needing to be burned to rid her of the fake currency that turned out to in fact be creatures that eat metal, like the metal your ship is composed of.Trying to help prisoners escape from a secret research base on a moon somewhere can get you shot and killed, especially when said research base is run by someone trying to do science experiments on the brains of his prisoners.
Stopping dangerous wormhole information from being obtained by Scarrans with a radioactive device can lead to slow and painful death by radiation, if things go wrong. Making deals with mechanics on desert planets can indirectly lead to this.
Stopping to let your ship heal on a planet, while it may seem like a good idea since the ship can't really do what it needs to do without healing, can lead to being caught by retrieval squads and gutted.
Stark stopped, shook his head, and decided he needed to stop answering this question.
2.
It isn't always a bad plan. Just almost always. You can't do anything once you're dead, unless you happen to be a ghost or you come back from being dead, and those don't happen very often. Getting dead just ruins things, mostly. And it upsets people.especially people who might have been nearby and felt you die or helped you die.And dying tends to disrupt any plans you might have had, or any plans anyone else had that might involve you. And if you aren't ready to die yet, and most people are not ready when they do die, then it can be painful and very unpleasant for everyone involved. Finally, being alive is just all around a better way to be than being dead is. At least I think so, for me.3. I don't even know what that means. So, it happened. Or happens, depending on when you are right now. At least, I think it happens. Happened. Whichever. Unless it didn't and this is a trick question. Is this a trick question? If it is a trick question, then it did not happen. Will not happen. Whichever. So, it happens or happened or doesn't or won't. That is the story of the match between Arsenal and Manchester in 2009, and I still don't know what that means.
Re: Take the Test
on time, really. This might have been why even his short answers were the length of essays.
During Test Time
