Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You, Class Fifteen [Period 5, Thursday]

Ares looked disturbingly happy as he addressed the class.

"Our final today is " He clicked his fingers and a portal appeared. "If you'd all follow me through the portal?"

As the class entered the portal, they may have felt an odd tingling.

Once on the other side of the portal, Ares addressed the class. "There's one simple rule for today's final. Survive. I'll be back to pick you up later."

Grinning, he disapeared in a flash of blue light.

Which would be when the large group of heavily armed men in robes and silly hats appeared over the horizion.

Okay, the blue light was totally cool. The heavily armed men in robes and silly hats on the horizon? Not so much.

"Who the holy crap? Where's our swords! Do we get nothing? What the hell? Man, I'm outta here!"

...and that would be about the time Annette was caught, captured, and slung over the beefy shoulders of some idot wearing a funky, stinky hat. "Hey! Watch the hands numbnuts!"

Krycek watched the men get closer, sighing a bit. "The one time I could hope for amazons..."

Survival? Cool.

"No fair not letting me get weapons!" she shouted to Ares, who was probably gone already.

And then she zippered her leg pouch closed. "Sorry," she apologized to the now-making-unhappy-noises kitty. "But you're totally not allowed to wander off on me here."

Isabel rolled her eyes. "You couldn't have given us a stupid essay test?"

Sam? Still trying to decide if she'd gone through a wormhole, not that she was going to mention that to anyone.

When she spotted the men in robes and silly hats, she felt a brief nostalgia for extremely noisy armor and glanced around, somehow sure that this was Daniel Jackson's fault.

"Cool!" Molly said, looking around. Unless Ares left them here for weeks, she really wasn't worried about surviving.

The men coming for them were a little worrying though. Molly fought her way free easily enough. There were too many men for her to try and save the others though. She ran off and hid until she was sure they weren't following her and then followed them from a distance, hoping that someone else had escaped and that she would get a chance to break everyone free.

Someone else was also following.

That same someone silently dropped down behind Molly and clapped a hand over her mouth.

This is why Molly liked teams. It was harder for people to sneak up on you.

After her initial surprise, she tried to elbow the person who grabbed her.

Xena twisted out of the way of the elbow. "I'm not with them," she said calmly.

"Who are you then?" Molly demanded. "And are you running away or can you help me get them out?"

"Getting them out was the plan, yes," Xena's lips quirked into a small grin. "I'm Xena."

Anders stared incredulously at the spot where Ares had been. "Survive? Survive? Is he frakking kidding?"

. . . and then he took in the be-robed and be-silly-hatted crowd on the horizon. ~~Just on the other side of where it dips down just below the level of the horizon, if you've ever been to the horizon.~~

". . . oh frak me."

Evie turned and gave him a horrified look. "They're not going to do that, are they?" She'd been in Fandom long enough to know what *That* word meant.

Anders choked. "Oh gods, I hope not!"

"Perhaps we should run away now?" Evie said. "Very very quickly?"

"I, uh . . . that might be a good idea," Anders replied. He was trying very, very hard not to flail.

Alanna's brain was stuck on "must not let stomach escape".

Heavily armed men were enough to make Valentine go flaily.

He did, however, find himself admiring the silly hats.

"Meeeeeeeeep!"

"Wonderful." Jack didn't try and run, and he didn't try and fight, but he did smile charmingly at anyone who looked even remotely susceptible to it.

There were too many interestingly dressed bad guys to escape. Jack figured harmless and charming would be a lot less likely to get trussed up than kicking and screaming.

"Uh, what's this got to do with the Gods?"

Kawalsky had a killer hangover and really didn't want to deal with this crap. That combination was going to make for a fun day.

This was something that Liz definitely wasn't in the mood for, but she knew that trying to defend herself wasn't going to make it easier so she let herself be captured.

Cameron blinked as he looked around. The arrival of the armed men looked like this final could be a whole lot of fun.
