Rikku smiled. "Thanks. I ... I just wanted to help someone, you know? I'm so tired of failing her."

Rory nodded. "Do you think you did, you know, at all?"

Rikku shook her head. "It didn't work."

She looked away for a moment, then back again. "Did you really end up with detachable limbs before? 'Cause that's scary even for Fandom."

"My ex decided to try to get powers. Everyone he came into contact with for a week ended up with something wrong with them," she sighed. "Detachable limbs for me, animal magnetism for Bridge - the list goes on."

Rikku stared. "Whoa! That's ... man! How would you get your arms back on, if you didn't have arms to put them on!?"

"Well, I had other people help me with them. And John dared me to put my arms where my legs go and vice versa," Rory said, remembering.

Rikku giggled madly. "Oooh! Did you? That would have been fun! And made it really hard to walk right."

"I did," she said, smiling. "Didn't try to walk, though. It was actually kind of fun, in hindsight. I took a lot of pictures, since my boyfriend was kind of...gone and I wanted to keep him caught up. I'll see if I can find them."

Rikku laughed. "Oh, man! Totally, I want to see that! Oh! I'm sorry about your boyfriend. Was he, like, away, or, uh." She bit her lip. "You know, like, gone?"

"He went away on a mission, and then he came back, and then he went away for good and died, and then he came back a couple months ago, except now he's twenty-four and has a son who's older than me," Rory said, as though this made any sense. "So...yes. If you know Master Skywalker, who teaches Ethics? That'd be him."

Rikku stared at her. "Whoa. This place just seriously keeps getting weirder, doesn't it?"

She shook her head. "I don't know him. I know Luke, and I was gonna go ask his dad about some stuff, just religion-type things?" She waved her hand. "Long story. I should go see when he has office hours."

She swallowed slightly. "Are you ... okay? I mean, that sounds pretty rough."

"I'm fine," Rory said, waving a hand. "I mean, I'm as fine as I'll ever be with something like this. You should've seen me a few months ago. I'm much less messy now."

Rikku gave her a sympathetic smile. "Yeah. Still, though, I mean. If you, uh, if you ever need ice cream or anything, let me know? My cousin ..."

The heck with it. "My cousin lost someone. He was kinda not supposed to exist, so we did something good, but it made him go back to not existing. That's ... that's what I was trying to fix."

"Oh, Rikku," Rory said sympathetically. "Is there any chance of re-existing him by, um, lawful means?"

Rikku swallowed hard. "I, uh, I don't know. I won't try the hole thing again, promise! Uh, someone said that he could ... help me? But someone else thinks it's a bad idea to make deals with him, and something about it seems off."

She shrugged. "Maybe it's just ... not supposed to be. It's just. They were so in love, you know? And he faded out right there in front of us and ..." She looked away again for a few seconds. "I just wish things were different, that's all."

Rory nodded. "It's never fair, things like that happening. Anakin and I were, um, like that...and then he left because he had to, and the next thign I knew I was running into Luke, who told me his father died a long time ago. And now things are so complicated. Who said they could help you?"

"Oh, wow," Rikku gasped. "That ... that had to be so hard. With Luke, I mean. And ... whoa. Yeah, it would be. But complicated's better than nothing at all, isn't it?"

She bit her lip. "Vice Principal Hades. He ... he closed the hole and said I was being silly, because he could have brought him back without all the fuss. Just for a contract. Jude ... Jude seemed to think it was a really bad idea."

"He said the same thing to me!" Rory said. "Hades, I mean. Said I could fix everything with a simple business deal."

Rikku considered. "Is that ... weird? Maybe he just likes making deals."

"Well, he's god of the dead, so I'm kind of thinking these deals won't involve hugs and puppies," Rory said consideringly.

"No. It'll be something scary and bad and ... if he can do it, then it might be worth it anyway." She shrugged. "I wish I knew."

Rory nodded. "It might be worth it," she said softly. "I need to know more."

"Me too," Rikku said softly. "Wait, what's he ... oh. That's kinda personal, huh? Sorry."

"Hmm? No, go ahead and ask," Rory said, her brow creasing as she looked up.

Rikku blushed. "I was just ... wondering. I'm hoping he can get my friend back. What's ... so important to you, that you're ... considering his offer?"

She flailed a bit. "You don't have to answer that. It's probably personal, I was just ... you know."
