Library [04/13]

Rory sleepily made her way into the library Friday morning well before she needed to open, her thoughts still on a conversation from a few nights back.

She got all her work done as soon as she arrived in the library - straightened the books, dusted the shelves, and even put all the returned books back.

She then settled in with her computer and began her list of things that needed to be done by the time she was picked up for prom the next night.

And okay, most of third period was spent daydreaming about whether her dress was pretty enough to make someone's eyes really pop out at seeing her in it.

Not Luke, though. She kind of hoped he wouldn't give her any kind of looks like that. Because seriously, Dysfunctional with a capital D.

Rory actually ate her lunch - two Hostess cupcakes, a bottle of water and a bagel - before browsing the library and selecting something to read to keep her mind occupied.

And read she did.

For a few hours.

Until it was time for her to close the library and leave.

Vicodin is fun, and I have to work later in the day, so I'll be around for ping-answering after I wake up sometime midmorning and then late at night after I'm home, yay!

Rikku wandered into the library, waving at Rory with a bit of an embarrassed flush. "Um, hiya! I, uh, I'm really sorry I missed the meeting yesterday."

"Hi Rikku! No worries," Rory said, looking up. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah! Uh, now. I kinda." She blushed more and stared at her feet. "I kinda ... did some not-good stuff. Earlier this week. But it's all fixed now and I'm really sorry about that if your week got screwed up or anything?"

"Did you have to do with the nightmares?" she asked curiously, narrowing her eyes a little.

Rikku blinked for a moment, confused. "Nightmares? People had nightmares?! That ... that totally wasn't me, at least I don't think so. I meant the bendiness stuff? Like where the common room didn't have gravity or doors led back into the room you just left? I didn't think that would give people nightmares, but maybe that went along with it and I didn't know."

"Oooh, I heard about the bendiness," Rory said, grinning. "That's a much better kind of weirdness. I don't think the nightmares were related, then."

"Yeah," Rikku smiled a bit. "That was ... I kinda ripped a hole, in the dimensional whatever-it's-called barrierness? And I guess things got leaky."

She shook her head. "That's why I was here, last week. I was looking for stuff and probably shouldn't have been and ... sorry."

Rory shrugged. "I didn't end up with detachable limbs. You're good in my book."

Rikku smiled. "Thanks. I ... I just wanted to help someone, you know? I'm so tired of failing her."

Rory nodded. "Do you think you did, you know, at all?"

Rikku shook her head. "It didn't work."

She looked away for a moment, then back again. "Did you really end up with detachable limbs before? 'Cause that's scary even for Fandom."

"My ex decided to try to get powers. Everyone he came into contact with for a week ended up with something wrong with them," she sighed. "Detachable limbs for me, animal magnetism for Bridge - the list goes on."

Rikku stared. "Whoa! That's ... man! How would you get your arms back on, if you didn't have arms to put them on!?"

"Well, I had other people help me with them. And John dared me to put my arms where my legs go and vice versa," Rory said, remembering.

Rikku giggled madly. "Oooh! Did you? That would have been fun! And made it really hard to walk right."

"I did," she said, smiling. "Didn't try to walk, though. It was actually kind of fun, in hindsight. I took a lot of pictures, since my boyfriend was kind of...gone and I wanted to keep him caught up. I'll see if I can find them."
