Rory sleepily made her way into the library Friday morning well before she needed to open, her thoughts still on a conversation from a few nights back.

"Oh, Rikku," Rory said sympathetically. "Is there any chance of re-existing him by, um, lawful means?"

Rikku swallowed hard. "I, uh, I don't know. I won't try the hole thing again, promise! Uh, someone said that he could ... help me? But someone else thinks it's a bad idea to make deals with him, and something about it seems off."

She shrugged. "Maybe it's just ... not supposed to be. It's just. They were so in love, you know? And he faded out right there in front of us and ..." She looked away again for a few seconds. "I just wish things were different, that's all."

Rory nodded. "It's never fair, things like that happening. Anakin and I were, um, like that...and then he left because he had to, and the next thign I knew I was running into Luke, who told me his father died a long time ago. And now things are so complicated. Who said they could help you?"

"Oh, wow," Rikku gasped. "That ... that had to be so hard. With Luke, I mean. And ... whoa. Yeah, it would be. But complicated's better than nothing at all, isn't it?"

She bit her lip. "Vice Principal Hades. He ... he closed the hole and said I was being silly, because he could have brought him back without all the fuss. Just for a contract. Jude ... Jude seemed to think it was a really bad idea."

"He said the same thing to me!" Rory said. "Hades, I mean. Said I could fix everything with a simple business deal."

Rikku considered. "Is that ... weird? Maybe he just likes making deals."

"Well, he's god of the dead, so I'm kind of thinking these deals won't involve hugs and puppies," Rory said consideringly.

"No. It'll be something scary and bad and ... if he can do it, then it might be worth it anyway." She shrugged. "I wish I knew."

Rory nodded. "It might be worth it," she said softly. "I need to know more."

"Me too," Rikku said softly. "Wait, what's he ... oh. That's kinda personal, huh? Sorry."

"Hmm? No, go ahead and ask," Rory said, her brow creasing as she looked up.

Rikku blushed. "I was just ... wondering. I'm hoping he can get my friend back. What's ... so important to you, that you're ... considering his offer?"

She flailed a bit. "You don't have to answer that. It's probably personal, I was just ... you know."

Rory considered it for a moment. "Changing my destiny," she said. "He keeps saying I'll end up alone and unmarried, and he can see the future. I...don't want that."

"Oh. I didn't know he could see the future." She bit her lip. "Is he ... playing with the wording, maybe? Or he said it was just, you know. Wow. That's rough."

"He could be outright lying," Rory said, shrugging. "I'm still kind of thinking about the whole thing."

"Yeah. I ... I guess I didn't think about him lying. I'm still thinking because ... because it has to be bad, right? There's a catch. But ... but I'm not sure I care." She swallowed hard. "If he's the only one that can fix it ..."

Rory nodded. "I just want it all to be right again," she said softly.

Rikku nodded, understanding. "Yeah. Me too. Maybe ... if you find out anything, you let me know, and same the other way. Right?"

"Definitely," Rory said, nodding vehemently. "I'm going to see if I can find someone else who sees the future, see if they can confirm or deny. Like I said, Hades might just be making it all up."

"That's a really good idea. Tell me if he's lying, because that'll mean he's probably just ... you know. Messing with both of us."

"And I'll ... I don't know. If I agree to whatever it is, and he pulls a fast one ... I'll tell you." She smiled ruefully.

She lifted half her mouth in a smile. "Be careful. Don't sign anything without reading the whole thing and possibly asking to have representation present."

Rikku laughed. "Yeah. Get four people to read it, look for invisible ink, check for magic fields on the paper ... all the good stuff."

"Look for holes and fine print," she agreed, giggling. "Anything that binds you into slavery or years of being forced to watch awful television."

"Make sure you zoom in to, like, individual threads in the paper." She giggled. "Oh, man! That's really evil! Or years of having to wash people's stinky feet."

"Eww. Or having to endure teacher-performed karaoke for decades."
