Revolutions: Week 12, Period 5

The class had been handwavily notified to meet in the Danger Shop, and that was where they found Aly who was looking slightly gleeful as she made sure the final settings were correct.  Once everyone had come in, she turned to clasp her hands in front of her and greet the students.

"Good day, everyone.  Today we are talking, again, about explosions.  A few classes ago we talked about pipe bombs and molotov cocktails which are both nice bombs, but they're a bit sloppy.  They're street weapons more than tactical weapons, and they can't necessarily be directed towards strategic goals."  She grinned at Sam if she was present.  "As some of you noted then."

"This isn't to say that there isn't a place for that type of weapon.  In a revolution, you use any weapon you can get your hands upon.  But unless you're planning on simply erecting barricades in the streets and never moving beyond that - and that rarely works as an overall strategy - you're going to have to move to a more strategic outlook."

"We did this twice while fighting in the Copper Isles.  The first time," a shadow and then a look of triumph crossed Aly's face quickly, "we destroyed the Rajmuat slave docks.  It was a message to the King and to his Spymaster.  That they couldn't stop us and they couldn't continue to profit off the labour of slaves.  The second time, the capital's armory was blown up to distract the soldiers for a bit while we set up for the endgame.  I planned both attacks though, sadly, I had other responsibilities so couldn't plant the charges on the armory."  She smirked.  "That and I might possibly have been in trouble still for going on the slave harbor raid."

"What I've done today is separate you up into groups and given you a structure to decide how to destroy.  We're not focusing on the actuality of the explosives this time.  Let's assume that you have an co-conspirator who can handle the making of the bombs.  What I want you to do is decide where to place them and discuss the possible problems with destroying these bridges and forts and the possible issues that may arise while attacking them."

"If you have someone in your group who has the magic to deal with the situation, that's fine.  You can use that, but I'd like you also to look at the problem without magic."

"After you've made your plan, the Danger Shop has all these structures programmed in.  You can choose where to want to place your devices and see how big an explosion you can make."

"Questions?  Ideas?  Worries?"

[OOC: Please wait for OCD with groups is up!]

Sam Carter--it's all about the red of explosions.

Well this was certainly more interesting and potentially useful than any of the dreadfully boring things she had to sit through yesterday. Madeline's eyes were positively gleaming.

Jamie crept over and sat at Madeline's feet.

And growled.

Steerpike was taking rather a lot of notes on this one. With diagrams. And cryptic comments in the margins.

Sam was already looking the plans over and determining the best place for charges while she waited for Isabel.

"Hey Sam," Isabel said. "I think I'll defer to your greater experience here."

Of course this would be the class Tyler couldn't talk during.

He gritted his teeth, trying not to make any noise as he waited for his teammates.

Irulan appeared wearing her headdress, which she unknowingly didn't know was transformed into dead stuffed rodents and weeds.

"Hello," she said.

Bridge sits quietly while waiting for his group members. He'd twiddle his thumbs, but mittens make that more difficult.

Jamie sat on his chair with his name tag that John had made for him around his neck.

His tail was wagging. Blowing up stuff is cool!

Madeline looked around. She had a vague idea that she was supposed to know Bel and D'Anna, but she couldn't quite place them.

Anders absentmindedly petted the sugar glider on his shoulder as he waited for his group. He still looked pretty down, but it was hard to be outright emo with a cute fuzzy friend sleeping on your shoulder.

Steerpike sat back, considering his notes and pondering questions such as where one might get the explosives if one weren't only doing it for class.

Re: [Rev 4-3] Make Things go BOOM

Sam looked a little sheepish. "We forgot to discuss the problems with blowing up the fort and issues that arise with an attack. Sorry, Isabel. Not sure where my brain is, and I didn't stop to show my work." Which was a cadet mistake.

Bridge is a bit slow packing up his things after class. Again, mittens are the culprit.

As does Wade. And blowing up things for SCIENCE! a class just made him all happy inside.

"Have I mentioned how much I think you're the best teacher in the school?"

Tyler wanted to thank Aly for the class and ask for a few pointers.

Unfortunately, what came out of his mouth was, "Rainbow bicycle pee forever." he grimaced and gestured at his throat.
