Revolutions: Week 12, Period 5

The class had been handwavily notified to meet in the Danger Shop, and that was where they found Aly who was looking slightly gleeful as she made sure the final settings were correct.  Once everyone had come in, she turned to clasp her hands in front of her and greet the students.

"Good day, everyone.  Today we are talking, again, about explosions.  A few classes ago we talked about pipe bombs and molotov cocktails which are both nice bombs, but they're a bit sloppy.  They're street weapons more than tactical weapons, and they can't necessarily be directed towards strategic goals."  She grinned at Sam if she was present.  "As some of you noted then."

"This isn't to say that there isn't a place for that type of weapon.  In a revolution, you use any weapon you can get your hands upon.  But unless you're planning on simply erecting barricades in the streets and never moving beyond that - and that rarely works as an overall strategy - you're going to have to move to a more strategic outlook."

"We did this twice while fighting in the Copper Isles.  The first time," a shadow and then a look of triumph crossed Aly's face quickly, "we destroyed the Rajmuat slave docks.  It was a message to the King and to his Spymaster.  That they couldn't stop us and they couldn't continue to profit off the labour of slaves.  The second time, the capital's armory was blown up to distract the soldiers for a bit while we set up for the endgame.  I planned both attacks though, sadly, I had other responsibilities so couldn't plant the charges on the armory."  She smirked.  "That and I might possibly have been in trouble still for going on the slave harbor raid."

"What I've done today is separate you up into groups and given you a structure to decide how to destroy.  We're not focusing on the actuality of the explosives this time.  Let's assume that you have an co-conspirator who can handle the making of the bombs.  What I want you to do is decide where to place them and discuss the possible problems with destroying these bridges and forts and the possible issues that may arise while attacking them."

"If you have someone in your group who has the magic to deal with the situation, that's fine.  You can use that, but I'd like you also to look at the problem without magic."

"After you've made your plan, the Danger Shop has all these structures programmed in.  You can choose where to want to place your devices and see how big an explosion you can make."

"Questions?  Ideas?  Worries?"

[OOC: Please wait for OCD with groups is up!]

Sam smiled slightly. "There are other ways to see outer space. NASA doesn't know everything."

"Like squirrel built ships and little blue boxes or alien wormholes," Isabel listed. "Somehow it makes the space shuttle look pretty boring."

"And now you see my problem with choosing an after-graduation activity," Sam said, putting another 'X' in a spot in the main wall where it looked like the foundation was weak and crumbling, "and that's in addition to the jobs I've already been offered."

"How about right there?" Isabel asked, pointing to a near one of the entrances. "On the off chance we don't make the whole thing go boom, it'll at least inconvienience them. And jobs offered? Plural?"

"Yes, blocking their means of access to and from the facility is always a good tactical move," Sam nodded, making another 'X', "and we always want to use the least amount of explosives for the maximum benefit--it lessens the chance that something can go wrong."

"Er, yes. One with the Time Agency, one with the Phoenix Foundation," Sam said, a little surprised that Jack hadn't mentioned it.

"The Time Agency did offer you a position? That's...good," Isabel said, hoping Sam wouldn't notice the hesitation. Her feelings about the Time Agency were decidedly less then positive after what they'd done to Jack over the holidays. "What's the Phoenix Foundation?"

Sam grinned, still really liking the idea of the position, "A think tank. Mac, er, Professor MacGyver put me up for a job. I'd be an international troubleshooter--dealing with problems as they came up, trying to stop wars before they start."

"That sounds interesting, and rewarding," Isabel smiled. "I bet you'd be wonderful at it. I don't envy you your choices."

"It's not easy, and I feel bad about not being able to give Jack a definite answer." Sam sighed and ran a hand through her hair, "I'm just not sure I can go back to saving the world on a weekly basis. I gave up too much the first time."

Isabel thought about how upset Jack had been the night he turned up in her room, how much he really wanted Sam to come with him. But Sam had to make the choice based on what she needed. "I can't even imagine. Pick what's best for you. That's what will make you happy."

Sam, unfortunately, was beginning to suspect that what made her happy could hurt Jack in ways she'd never meant to. So she did what she always did and ignored it. "Think we're ready to blow something up?"

"I'm not going to say no to a little destruction. Let's have at it."
