Sam grumbled, but continued acting sneaky, before running up and wrapping his arms around Dawn's waist from behind. "Maybe. But I like being taller more," he said, smirking. "What are you looking up?"

Dawn leaned back into Sam, happy that she could do that again. "Portals and keys. Door and I had some weirdness yesterday and I wanted to find out about it."

"What kind of weirdness? Was it something in class" Sam asked. "I lost sight of you once that guy started shooting at me."

"Yeah, um," she peeked at Sam to watch his reaction, "we kinda ended up in the Perk. Sorry I didn't get you anything."

"What do you mean you ended up in the Perk. Like, you snuck out of class? 'Cause that's weird for you, but..."

"No, I mean," she lowered her voice, "that Door grabbed my hand to make a door and escape, and instead of ending up in the Second Floor Common Room, we ended up in the Perk. She tapped into...what I am, Sam. Or was."

Sam's eyes widened, and he pulled Dawn a little closer. "Are you okay?" he asked. That was definitely his first concern.

Which Dawn appreciated. "Yeah, I'm fine. Surprised, more than anything."

"Yeah, I can see how that would be sort of surprising," Sam said. "Is that sort of thing going to happen every time the two of you touch each other?"

"I don't think so," she shook her head, pushing her hair out of the way when it got stuck to her lip gloss. "We touched when she wasn't trying to make a door and we didn't end up anywhere else."

"That's really weird. Did she know about...you know, what you used to be?" Sam asked. He didn't want to think about anyone abusing Dawn's power if she couldn't stop them.

"No, she had no idea. And I didn't either, since I thought it was just a blood and ritual thing. Therefore, research." She supposed she'd have to talk to a Giles about this at some point, but the one here had much bigger concerns right now.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Sam asked, getting much more serious at the magic R-word.

"Anything on mystical portals and Dagon, I guess," Dawn decided, chewing on her lip, "but I bet anything useful's going to be in special collections."

"Probably," Sam agreed. "You know, I bet my dad would sign off on you getting into Special Collections, even though it's not for class. And I'd be more than happy to be your aide escort. That is, if you want to go looking."

"He has once before," Dawn nodded, remembering, "and awwww, that's sweet of you. I'd think I'd like to know, you know?"

"I can totally understand wanting to know. I'd feel the same way if I was in your position." There were certainly things Sam wanted to know about himself, but he doubted the answers would be in the Special Collections.

"Thank you for not getting all freaked out," she kissed him on the cheek.

"You're welcome," Sam replied, smiling softly. "I mean, it's not like you tried to make something weird happen. It just did, and as long as you're okay, there's nothing to freak out about."

"Nope, that's me. An epicenter of weird," she tried not to be too bothered by that, "and actually, I was thinking that maybe it could be a good thing. Eventually."

"How so?" Sam asked. "I mean, not that I don't want it to be a good thing too, of course."

"Like when you were captured by the trolls," Dawn said enthusiastically, "We could have maybe made a door and gotten people out, without having to do as much of the fighty thing."

"And that probably would have gone a lot faster," Sam replied, shuddering a little at the thought of the troll he'd dealt with. "That's a really, really good point."

"Thank you, I liked it," she smirked at him, still unable to believe how well he was handling the day-to-day of dating a bright green ball of energy, former. "So, Dean gave me a picture of you in Ethics class yesterday."

Sam's eyes narrowed, and he muttered slightly unkind things about Dean under his breath. "Of course he did. Why does that not surprise me? I'm amazed he didn't photocopy the picture and plaster it all over the dorms."
