Ethics [Monday, March 11, 5th period]

Anakin was leaning against the desk as the Ethics class walked in. A crumpled version the syllabus was in his hand.

"I hope you all stayed dry this weekend and kept your fish throwing to a minimum," he said. "The syllabus says that we're supposed to begin a discussion of the seven deadly sins today, but I want to get to know you a little bit first."

He was supposed to be a new instructor, after all.

"What manner of action do you find unforgivable?" he asked, his voice and manner completely unreadable. "Treason against your country or homeworld? Stealing from the defenseless? Slavery? Murder? Let's not worry about extenuating circumstances for the moment. If I were to tell you I killed children, most of you would recoil, correct? Where do you draw that line in your head? How far does someone have to go before you say 'that's wrong and there's no getting past it'?"

He avoided John's eyes as he paced around the room, finally pointing at a student. "Go ahead."

"We need to get him something too." He looked at Sammy. "Any ideas?"

Sam thought about it, and shrugged. "A set of fuzzy dice for his new truck?" he suggested, snickering.

Dean chuckled. "That and one of those 'Baby on Board' suction cup signs he can put in the window?"

Sam had to put his hand over his mouth to cover his laughter. "Oh man, I just want to see the look on his face if we gave him something like that."

"We'll need to get him something serious too," Dean said. "Weapon?"

"That's probably the safest option."

Dean chuckled. "And this is why the Winchesters will never be normal."

"Well, we're giving Dad something he wants. That's pretty normal," Sam replied.

"True," Dean agreed. "Okay, tomorrow we make a trip to Tex's and see what we can find."

"Good idea. We can probably find something good and useful there. And maybe we could go and talk to Zoe too, so she has some time to prepare?"

"Definitely." He grinned. "Going to be busy tomorrow."

"I think we'll survive," Sam replied with a smirk.

"Oh by the way I had a talk with Alec. He won't be hitting on you anymore."

"Really?" Sam asked. "Did the talk go okay?"

"Yeah." He looked over at Sammy. "Though you've managed to pretty much convince him there's no use in him trying to get along with you because you won't let him."

"It's not that I won't get along with him. I can't trust him," Sam replied. "Maybe it's best this way. He'll leave me alone, and you won't be subjected to either of us having to complain about the other."

"I trust him," Dean said. "And you could trust if the two of you would just stop being so damned..."

"You act like this is all my choice," Sam said. "I seriously doubt Alec would trust me either, if he had to."

"Maybe, but you can only control your actions. And you don't need to shut him down every time he even tries to be nice."

"It would help if I knew when he was lying to me," Sam muttered. "I don't want letting him be nice bite me in the ass if it turns out he doesn't mean it."

"So when have you been nice to him and had it bite you in the ass?" Dean asked bluntly. "When have you been nice to him period? You've hated him since you first met him. Long before he really did anything to deserve it."

Sam did his best to not glare defensively. "He's been a jerk to me since day one. And I don't hate him, most of the time. I just don't like him."

"He didn't tease you any more than I did at first," Dean pointed out. "He just didn't understand that I can get away with more because I'm your brother. And it's not just him that hasn't behaved as well as he might. You've been pretty pissy to him right back."

"Maybe," Sam said, not willing to own up to his actions any more than that at the moment. "I don't know if I can make myself like him, Dean."

"At this point I'd settle for you two not at each other's throats all the time," Dean said. "And not having one or the other of you coming to me to complain at least once a week. And to be able to talk about Alec without you giving me that bitchface of yours."
