Spy Tech, Class Eight (03/07)

Wednesday, March 7, Period One

Once the students are seated, M indicates the absence list projected on the wall, and then immediately moves on to the lecture.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
BARBARA GORDON (CLASS SEVEN)

LECTURE: "Today we'll begin our unit on disguise, by discussing two technologies used to create simple and subtle disguises. It's easy enough to wear a wig or colored contacts to make very basic changes to your appearance, but there are times when you need to be more convincing, when you need to be able to fool someone who's actively investigating your identity. Santos and Blank are passing around two items to each of you. The first is a fingerprint kit. Not for taking fingerprints, but for creating false ones. The kits will copy the fingerprint of someone else, and produce fine latex replicas that you wear over your own fingers. The fakes don't have a very long lifespan, but they're quite useful when you know you're going into a situation where you've got to maintain a false identity as another person.

"The second item is a voice changer. Just as the fingerprint kit copies someone else's fingerprints, this item copies a person's voice-print, and then alters your own voice to match it. Again, it isn't something you'd want to use long-term, but it can be very useful when you need an extremely convincing disguise, or for use in telephone communications."

CLASS ACTIVITY: "Today, I want you to use the remainder of the class period to practice with the fingerprint kit. Pair up and take the prints of one of your classmates and create fakes for yourself, and then use the fingerprint testing materials in the box on my desk to take and test latent fingerprints, so that you can demonstrate for yourselves how they work."

ASSIGNMENT: "Your assignment for next week is to take home one of the voice changers. Copy someone's voice, and then use the voice changer to disguise yourself as that person. I expect all of these to be returned next week, and if I find out that any of you have used the voice changer to cause trouble or to get someone else in trouble, you'll have detention and an F for the assignment. Next week, we'll meet in the Danger Shop."

[NOTE: Standard disclaimer for the assignment: please don't use it to cause undue mischief, and make certain you get OOC permission from the player before copying their voice.]

[ooc: Yeah, I said last week that they'd be meeting in the Danger Shop this week. I lied. Next week, totally meeting in the Danger Shop, though. Kindly wait for the OCD is finished. Class is in session!]

Anders was kind of fascinated by the fingerprint maker. It was a lot more sophisticated-looking than the one he'd caught on some TV show last week . . .

...a little glob of latex suddenly found itself flying through the air, towards Anders' forehead.

Holy Crap!

Annette quickly lowered her head, seemingly intent on her work.

Given that Anders was now distracted by somebody else's happy warm fuzzy feelings (http://future-visions.livejournal.com/87367.html) (argh!), he totally didn't notice the glob of latex until it hit him in the forehead.

Then, the look of WTF on his face was a thing of wonder and beauty to behold.

"Okay," he blurted out, "that is just way too realistic and oh my gods, agh!"

. . . he hadn't yet realized it was latex, see.

(ooc:*spits water everywhere* omg! am dying laughing over here!)

Annette slowly peeked up and over through her lashes and her shoulders started shaking as she desperately tried to contain her laughter. If she only had her camera!

Wait! She did! Holy crap! She scrambled for it in her bag before Anders lost that look on his face. Because it was so priceless! Yes!

[OOC: I'M SORRY OMG I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF.]

Lucky for Annette, Anders was still standing there, frozen in reality-of-latex-still-not-sunk-in horror. With a touch of pathos, perhaps, on the side. But mostly just petrified horror.

(ooc: no! omg I love it!)

Click. Oh, a great picture! She was so going to have to share this one! She stared down at it as it came into focus (she really needed to get one of those digital things. But for now, it was her polaroid) and oh my god the latex on his forehead caught the light a certain way and it sort of shimmered like, and it kind of looked like...and it was dragging downward a little, so there was this glob in the center of his forehead that drooped and it sort of looked like...

Annette raised her head and looked over at Anders, then looked at the picture again, then at Anders. "Oh my god."

[OOC: So of course now I have to use this icon.]

Anders finally snapped out of it and looked at her, his expression a bizarre melange of pitiful and appalled.

"This . . . seriously takes TMI to a whole new level."

(ooc: *giggles*)

Annette thought to be helpful and in no way gave over that she was the one who did it. Was even going to pretend that she didn't know what the heck it was.

"Hair gel?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wish." Anders still hadn't tried to wipe it off, so he didn't yet realize it was latex from the machine. "Lords, the bootlegged psychic broadcast is bad enough -- does it have to be interactive, too?!?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so hard not to stare at that glob, it made her forehead itch. What if he forgot about it? What if he walked around all day with that..stuff on his forehead? What would people think? Ew.

"What are you talking about Anders?" Yes, he must spell it out for her.

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, great. Certain people's activities had just ramped themselves up a notch, and Anders turned really red. "It's . . . I can feel when, um . . . someone is . . . uh, getting it on, and . . ."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, that white stuff really stood out against his red face. Kind of pretty. In a globbish, drooping sort of way.

But what the?

Her eyebrows shot up and she might have twittered in her chair a little, "You don't say?" Oh my god the thoughts that were running through her mind. "Anyone? I mean like do you uh..." Her eyes focused on that glob. "Oh."

"Annette," Anders said pleadingly, "do you really want to know? He was already starting to shift uncomfortably from one foot to the other, and mentally damning first period classes and people who didn't have them and could sleep in, or not so much sleep as do other things in bed while he had to be in class and privy to the whole damn thing, and oh gods he was even mentally flailing in grammar-challenged run-on sentences . . .

Parker started to hit buttons on the voicechanger, and played back a little of M's voice, then Nadia's. "Hmm. Say something, Daisy."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Whaddya want me to say, Parker?" asked Anders, his gaze a little unfocused, yet distinctly annoyed.

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Recite a sonnet," Parker said dryly, "Anything. What's your problem?" Then she rolled her eyes. "Still?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, still," Anders grumbled. "I am about to frakking hunt down Blank and ask him if he has a tranquilizer dart or something. Swear to gods, that should be illegal during first period or something."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Parker cracked up. "Or? You could go take a boombox outside his room, and play Let's Get It On really damn loud, so everyone else can know what they're, ahem, up to."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Only if I don't have to stick around for it," Anders said after a moment's deliberation. "And explain why I'm so, um, in the mood."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I thought Phoebe was going to do something about this, what happened to that? And no one says you have to stay." Parker grinned. "I'd love to see his expression if someone *did* do that...."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well." Anders shrugged. "She's still a little distracted, what do you want?"

He grinned evilly, all of a sudden, and tapped his voice changer. "Someone who sounds like . . ." The rest was whispered into Parker's ear.

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Parker leaned forward, and her eyes widened hugely, and then she started chortling. "Oh, I am so in."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I knew I could count on you, Parker," Anders replied, smirking. "Got a few famous words for the recorder here?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"For you? Always." Parker leaned in and started to talk, keeping her voice low but intense, so no one else could hear exactly what she was saying. When she finished, she straightened. "Work for you?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Have I mentioned that I love you, Parker?" asked Anders, grinning insanely.
