Spy Tech, Class Eight (03/07)

Wednesday, March 7, Period One

Once the students are seated, M indicates the absence list projected on the wall, and then immediately moves on to the lecture.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
BARBARA GORDON (CLASS SEVEN)

LECTURE: "Today we'll begin our unit on disguise, by discussing two technologies used to create simple and subtle disguises. It's easy enough to wear a wig or colored contacts to make very basic changes to your appearance, but there are times when you need to be more convincing, when you need to be able to fool someone who's actively investigating your identity. Santos and Blank are passing around two items to each of you. The first is a fingerprint kit. Not for taking fingerprints, but for creating false ones. The kits will copy the fingerprint of someone else, and produce fine latex replicas that you wear over your own fingers. The fakes don't have a very long lifespan, but they're quite useful when you know you're going into a situation where you've got to maintain a false identity as another person.

"The second item is a voice changer. Just as the fingerprint kit copies someone else's fingerprints, this item copies a person's voice-print, and then alters your own voice to match it. Again, it isn't something you'd want to use long-term, but it can be very useful when you need an extremely convincing disguise, or for use in telephone communications."

CLASS ACTIVITY: "Today, I want you to use the remainder of the class period to practice with the fingerprint kit. Pair up and take the prints of one of your classmates and create fakes for yourself, and then use the fingerprint testing materials in the box on my desk to take and test latent fingerprints, so that you can demonstrate for yourselves how they work."

ASSIGNMENT: "Your assignment for next week is to take home one of the voice changers. Copy someone's voice, and then use the voice changer to disguise yourself as that person. I expect all of these to be returned next week, and if I find out that any of you have used the voice changer to cause trouble or to get someone else in trouble, you'll have detention and an F for the assignment. Next week, we'll meet in the Danger Shop."

[NOTE: Standard disclaimer for the assignment: please don't use it to cause undue mischief, and make certain you get OOC permission from the player before copying their voice.]

[ooc: Yeah, I said last week that they'd be meeting in the Danger Shop this week. I lied. Next week, totally meeting in the Danger Shop, though. Kindly wait for the OCD is finished. Class is in session!]

Dick was playing with the fingerprint maker. Yeah, he was going to end up with latex all over him. Not dirty

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette let a glob of latex fly purposefully towards Dick's head.

Snorting, she bent her head back over her own work because it was so not her who did it.

Dick turned his head quickly to look at Annette. "Oh don't even pretend that wasn't you!"

"What?" She blinked. "What was that, Dick? 'Fraid I didn't hear you."

[identity profile] surferboy-09er.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh you heard me." he said, picking up the latex off his desk. "You're telling me you have no idea where this came from?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Crap! It hit is desk? Man, she was aiming for his face!

She raised her brows and tried her best lying techniques, "I don't think I have any idea what you're talking about. Looks to me like someone got a little bit messy with very expensive spy equipment."

"I think that someone was you." he said, flicking the latex back at her.

Parker was wondering how to get one of these for herself. Short of asking M for one, and since she didn't have a definite need for one right now, that might have been pushing it.

But still.

Anders was kind of fascinated by the fingerprint maker. It was a lot more sophisticated-looking than the one he'd caught on some TV show last week . . .

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...a little glob of latex suddenly found itself flying through the air, towards Anders' forehead.

Holy Crap!

Annette quickly lowered her head, seemingly intent on her work.

Given that Anders was now distracted by somebody else's happy warm fuzzy feelings (http://future-visions.livejournal.com/87367.html) (argh!), he totally didn't notice the glob of latex until it hit him in the forehead.

Then, the look of WTF on his face was a thing of wonder and beauty to behold.

"Okay," he blurted out, "that is just way too realistic and oh my gods, agh!"

. . . he hadn't yet realized it was latex, see.

(ooc:*spits water everywhere* omg! am dying laughing over here!)

Annette slowly peeked up and over through her lashes and her shoulders started shaking as she desperately tried to contain her laughter. If she only had her camera!

Wait! She did! Holy crap! She scrambled for it in her bag before Anders lost that look on his face. Because it was so priceless! Yes!

[OOC: I'M SORRY OMG I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF.]

Lucky for Annette, Anders was still standing there, frozen in reality-of-latex-still-not-sunk-in horror. With a touch of pathos, perhaps, on the side. But mostly just petrified horror.

(ooc: no! omg I love it!)

Click. Oh, a great picture! She was so going to have to share this one! She stared down at it as it came into focus (she really needed to get one of those digital things. But for now, it was her polaroid) and oh my god the latex on his forehead caught the light a certain way and it sort of shimmered like, and it kind of looked like...and it was dragging downward a little, so there was this glob in the center of his forehead that drooped and it sort of looked like...

Annette raised her head and looked over at Anders, then looked at the picture again, then at Anders. "Oh my god."

Parker started to hit buttons on the voicechanger, and played back a little of M's voice, then Nadia's. "Hmm. Say something, Daisy."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Whaddya want me to say, Parker?" asked Anders, his gaze a little unfocused, yet distinctly annoyed.

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Recite a sonnet," Parker said dryly, "Anything. What's your problem?" Then she rolled her eyes. "Still?"

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, still," Anders grumbled. "I am about to frakking hunt down Blank and ask him if he has a tranquilizer dart or something. Swear to gods, that should be illegal during first period or something."

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER (before Annette)

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Parker cracked up. "Or? You could go take a boombox outside his room, and play Let's Get It On really damn loud, so everyone else can know what they're, ahem, up to."

John messed around with the fingerprint maker, wondering if he could leave no fingerprints at all.

Mac is always a fan of technology, and this technology is no exception. She made a couple of copies of her own fingerprint, and attempted to use them to gain access to her laptop through the fingerprint recognition system.

Re: CLASS ACTIVITY/CHATTER

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette was completely fascinated by the fingerprint maker and really wanted one for herself. You know, just in case she needed to be somebody else in a sneaky, deceptive way.

She started messing with the latex...

Setsuna was rather fascinated with this whole idea, but was vaguely worried about how her mind was flitting towards how this could be used to get away with a lot of crimes as she worked with it rather than how it could help her try to solve crimes...

Schrodinger always wore gloves, just as a matter a habit.

So the idea is kind of amusing to him.
