Sam didn't appear to be in the best of moods as he went to open the library, even with extra coffee in his hands.

"Y'welcome," Dean told him. "You didn't seriously think I wasn't going to bring you anything back, did you?"

Sam shrugged. "I don't know. I wasn't sure if you'd be too busy enjoying your vacation time, and the company you were with."

Dean shook his head, still smiling. "I'm not going to forget about you, Sammy, just because I'm with Alec. Promise."

"I know," he said, sounding more convinced than he felt sometimes.

"You better," Dean told him.

"I worry less when you bring me presents," he teased.

Dean chuckled. "You turning mercanary on me, little brother?"

"That's such a negative word. I think opportunistic is much more appropriate." He had to admit, it was reassuring to know that Dean really had thought of him while he was away, and wasn't just occupied with Alec.

Dean reached over and mussed up Sammy's hair. "So you going to give me a list of things you want next time I roadtrip without you?"

Sam made a protesting noise and swatted at Dean's hand before pushing his hair back into place. "That depends. Are you planning on roadtripping without me a lot?"

"Nah," Dean said, grinning at his brother. "I mean we're a team aren't we? Just have to adjust so there's room for Alec and Dawn, without anyone killing anyone."

"As long as Alec doesn't try to steal shotgun too much, we should be all right," Sam replied. Having Dawn along made that idea much more palatable.

"Yeah, because you'd much rather ride next to me than next to Dawn," Dean teased.

"I want to ride next to both of you equally," Sam said. "And me riding shotgun means Alec would be in the back, which means the two of you wouldn't be doing anything bad in the front seat while you're supposed to be driving."

"Yeah, like we're going to be doing anything when I'm driving," Dean said, rolling his eyes. Completely ignoring the fact that they had. But that was when they were in the car alone.

"You'll have to excuse me for not completely believing you when you say that," Sam replied.

"Do you seriously think I'd ever do anything that could risk the Impala?" Dean asked.

Sam laughed and shook his head. "No, I guess not. And since me getting to drive is totally out of the question..."

"Maybe," Dean allowed. "If I can be sure you won't get distracted arguing with Alec."

"I'd be too busy focusing on the road, and on driving safely," Sam promised. He was pretty sure that would be true, at least.

"We'll see," Dean said grudgingly. Sammy had almost as much right to drive the Impala as Dean did, but he wanted to make sure he was up to it first.

Sam grinned. That was a small step in getting to drive, but it was a good one. "Great! We'll definitely see."

"Maybe for your birthday," Dean said.

"Really?" Sam said, perking up visibly.

"Yeah, sure, why not?" Dean said, unable to begruge Sam when he got all hopeful like that.
