Detention [Saturday, February 17, all day]

Josh was so, so, so excited to get to play with the big kids today.

He'd even snuck a cup of coffee in the morning before bouncing off towards school.

Don't tell anyone, but coffee was kind of icky.

He was sitting on one of the couches the Danger Shop had provided, swinging his legs back and forth as he waited for the students to show up for detention the big kids to come over.

They were going to have sooooo much fun.

Katara waved back. Kids were easier than detention. And he wasn't that much younger than Aang.

"I'm Katara! What are we going to play?"

"First we're gonna watch cartoons and then we're gonna make silly hats and pretend to be presidents and then there's lunch and then we're going to go across the country in covered wagons and shoot buffalo!"

All in one breath. Josh was a little excited.

Turtle's too busy still boggling at the kid to really pay much attention to the cartoons, although she recognized the one from class and probably should. Could come up again.

But she thought Professor Lyman was running detention? Who was this, his kid? Did he have kids? Even worse, was this Lyman?

The boggling was only occationally ceased by distractions of poor animation and catchy jingles about conjunctions.

Josh's face wrinkled up. "No...." he said slowly. "Miss Zoe said I could play. 'Sides, Dad's up in Connecticut."

Tori raised an eyebrow at Schoolhouse Rock being on the television. She glanced around wondering where Professor Lyman had gone.

The only person in the room besides the students was a kid. Could it be remotely possible that he was Professor Lyman?

...

Dean liked Schoolhouse Rock -- heck he probably learned more about history from that than from actual schoolwork, but right now the fact that their teach was a kid was far more interesting.

Zoe led the way into the Danger Shop, and made a beeline for Dean. "Dean Dean Dean Dean," she said, tugging on his shirt. "Hi."

It seemed to be Dean's day for staring. "Hi," he replied automatically to the little girl.

Then he caught sight of the little boy that was following her who looked vaguely familiar... until he remembered where he'd seen him before -- when looking at the few old pictures their family still had. Pictures of when his father was a kid.

"Dad?"
