Detention [Saturday, February 17, all day]

Josh was so, so, so excited to get to play with the big kids today.

He'd even snuck a cup of coffee in the morning before bouncing off towards school.

Don't tell anyone, but coffee was kind of icky.

He was sitting on one of the couches the Danger Shop had provided, swinging his legs back and forth as he waited for ~~the students to show up for detention~~ the big kids to come over.

They were going to have sooooo much fun.

Dean liked Schoolhouse Rock -- heck he probably learned more about history from that than from actual schoolwork, but right now the fact that their teach was a kid was far more interesting.

Josh waved. "I should've brought cereal," he said. "I always watch cartoons with cereal."

"Yeah, so did my brother," Dean replied absently. "You're... uh...."

"Precocious?" Josh supplied.

"I was going to go with short," Dean said.

Josh stuck his lower lip out. "I'm not short. I'm almost nine and tall for my age!"

Well, average. Which was like tall.

Zoe led the way into the Danger Shop, and made a beeline for Dean. "Dean Dean Dean Dean," she said, tugging on his shirt. "Hi."

It seemed to be Dean's day for staring. "Hi," he replied automatically to the little girl.

Then he caught sight of the little boy that was following her who looked vaguely familiar... until he remembered where he'd seen him before -- when looking at the few old pictures their family still had. Pictures of when his father was a kid.

"Dad?"

"Dean, we need you to come make us breakfast now, okay?" John said, trying to sound authori- authorti- autho- bossy.

Josh frowned. "But he's supposed to play with me."

Zoe put her hands on her hips. "You have other bad people to play with today. I'm in charge, and I say Dean is coming with us."

Josh put his hands on his lips and stuck his tongue out. "But I'm in charge in here. You said so yesterday! Are you a lying liarface?"

"Hey, you take that back," John warned, stepping up to Josh. "Don't call girls names. It's rude."

"I'm not calling girls names," Josh said, pouting. "I'm calling her names. Not because she's a girl. Because she's mean. I wanna play with Dean!"

"But we need Dean to feed us! If he doesn't make us breakfast we're going to starve," Zoe said desperately.

Josh thought about that. "Does he make waffles?"

Josh liked waffles.

"I can..." Dean said slowly, "but I really think that there's more important things-"

"No!" Zoe yelled sternly. "You're gonna come with us and make us breakfast, or I'm going to give you detention and make you play with someone meaner than Josh!"

"Ooooooooooh," Josh singsonged. "You're in troooooouble."

Dean mentally threw his hands up. He had been going to say that the fact they were all children was more important than waffles, but he supposed he could start trying to figure out that and make waffles too.

"Fine," he said with a sigh. He pulled out my cell. "Just let me give Sammy a call, so he can.... come help us."

"Yay!" Zoe squealed, wrapping her arms around Dean's legs to hug him. "You're the best."

"I want waffles too if you're gonna leave," Josh said, tapping his foot.

"Take it up with her," Dean said, nodding at Zoe wrapped around his leg. Hey, he wasn't above hiding behind a child in situations like this.

"We'll bring you some of the waffles once he's made them," Zoe promised.

"Okay," Josh agreed. "Come back soon!"
