Ethics [Monday, February 5, 5th period]

The door to the Ethics classroom rocked back on its hinges as per usual but instead of a cloaked Sith Lord, a small ball hovered its way into the room.

It was black. It was shiny. It was incredibly menacing.

It surveyed the class for a long, quiet moment before Vader entered the room.

"There was a rebel captured recently in my home galaxy," Vader began, "who possessed knowledge about where the headquarters of her wrong-headed and illegal organization was located. After extensive interrogation, it was decided that extreme measures must be taken to get her to reveal her information."

Vader paused, the only sound in the room his ventilation unit.

"So we destroyed her home planet from space."

Vader paced in front of his desk, his black cape sweeping out behind him. "This is an interrogation droid," he continued, waving his hand at the hovering orb. "There are times when asking politely for information accomplishes nothing and blowing up a planet is inconvenient."

It was very clear that the interrogation droid had no capacity for talking, though. It was an extremely advanced instrument of torture.

"Today, we will conduct an experiment," Vader said, staring down the students. "Half of you will be rebel traitors who possess information about the location of your secret base." Those students received a slip of paper on their desks. "The other half of you are Imperial guards trying to obtain this information from your prisoner. I, personally, do not care what form your...questioning takes, but you cannot use actual physical violence."

There was a long pause. "In this particular exercise. In a real interrogation, it is practically required. When you reach a stalemate in your negotiations--and feel free to shoot at the prisoners with the water pistols from last week, for I do not see how getting wet can possible be construed as physical violence--," he said to the interrogators, pointing towards the box on his desk, "you may talk with your partner about how far you would be willing to go if the school would allow you to use physical violence, or if you had more time to get the prisoner to become...more pliable. Sleep deprivation also works very well."

He spun on his heel. "And don't do anything to make the interrogator droid notice you. Its programming is very sensitive. It would be a lot of paperwork if any of you were inadvertently tortured."

Draco definitely had to hold back from shouting "COOL!" when he heard about Vader blowing up a planet.

No, it didn't sound like anyone he knew at all. Though it would have been a bit troublesome for them to blow up the planet... seeing that they all lived on the same one.

Valentine had given up hiding under desks. He had learned by now that it wasn't going to save him anyhow, and he looked less conspicuous if he was sitting properly in his seat.

Irulan looked at Vader thoughtfully. If she had that kind of power the Empire would not be so beholden to the Guild. It was something to think about.

Turtle was taking very careful notes from the moment Vader mentioned that a planet was blown up.

And, yes, there was severe glaring from her once it was specificly stated that violence could not be used.

Walter had mixed feelings about the matter of destroying an entire planet, but he certainly couldn't argue its efficacy.

Katara had already heard about the planet situation. So while she was still disapproving, she didn't have much of a reaction.

On the other hand when Darth Vader mentioned that he didn't consider water a weapon, she had to work not to look at anyone or grin.

Marco was deciding if Visser 3 was scarrier or not. Jury was still out, but he was leaning towards "scarrier".

Kaoru sighed. This class just got freakier each time he came...

He took notes, glad he'd kept the two water pistols from last week just in case.

Pair up and conduct an interrogation

The Rebel scum spies are: Baltier, Irulan, Walter, Molly, Draco, Blair, Steerpike, Valentine, Turtle, Sam, and Katara.

The Rebel base is on Yavin 4.

The Imperial interrogators are: Marco, John, Jake, Kaoru, Neil, Schrodinger, Jaye, Eric, Dean, and Zuko. If you don't get this information, the Rebels will use this base to destroy the space station you are living on. If you survive such an attack Vader will have you executed for gross incompetence.

If there are absences, Vader will pick up the other side of that pair. Lucky you.

Threats of violence are fine. Actual violence will send you to detention. And as he said in the lecture, Vader doesn't view getting shot with water to be actual violence.

Vader's a little skewed.

Draco didn't look happy to be a Rebel at all. He eventually convinced himself it will be a nice learning experience to be on the other side of the whole interrogation thing.

Rebel eh? It kind of fit in a way. It would be very interesting to see if any of them could get him to talk, however. Balthier had very few buttons to push...

Valentine stared at the little piece of paper incredulously. He was a rebel? ... That was interesting.

He wondered idly exactly what his information was worth to anyone who might want to interrogate him.

"Oh, sweet. Rebel!" Turtle may have bounced a little as she eagerly looked about to see which "Imperial" would interrogate her. Unsuccessfully, of course. She was the type of person to sew her own lips shut if she had to to keep a secret.

Okay, maybe not that far...

Katara was more than happy to be a rebel. As long as it didn't involve being tied to a tree. She sat back, fingering her necklace and waited for the interrogation.

And Mitch has wandered into another class. His first thought is that Darth Vader's clothing will surely drag him under should a sudden undertow appear.

He keeps a close eye on Vader, buoy at the ready.
