Library [1/23]

Sam came to open the library, in probably the best mood he'd been in in a long time.

His mood was so good, in fact, that he wasn't even particularly bothered by finding that half of the items on the main desk had turned into pies.

"After this weekend? And previous weirdnesses that I've witnessed? I don't think anything is out of the realm of possibility. Uh, not that you should worry or anything," he added quickly.

"Now I'm having a Barbara Walters moment," Peter said, leaning against the counter. "If I was a pie, what kind of pie would I be?"

"Maybe an apple pie? Something nice and wholesome?" Sam suggested. "I'd probably be full of nuts."

Peter's smile turned a little wry at that. "Yeah... about that. You know anything about demon stuff and families?"

Sam's grin faded a little as well. "Yeah. More than I want to know, to be honest. Why do you ask?"

Peter leaned in so they could have a little privacy. "Just... something Nathan said last night got me thinking."

"About what?" Sam asked quietly. "Has something else happened?"

"Dunno," Peter admitted. "Nathan wouldn't give me details. Just said I was acting like - I'm just wondering if I'm on the right track with these dreams."

"More like bad news," Peter said. "What if this is something wrong? How do I know what I'm seeing is good?"

Now there was a question Sam had only asked himself about a hundred times. "This is only my personal opinion, but I think it's a matter of whether or not you're good. Someone else could see the same thing as you and decide to use that in a bad way. But that doesn't mean that what you're seeing is bad, just that the person is."

"What if the power's coming from a bad source No relation to Bel?" Peter asked.

"I don't know," Sam said honestly. "I'm still trying to figure that out myself."

"There goes my hope you had all the answers hidden away in some - " Peter started to gesture to a book, but then it transformed " - pie somewhere."

Sam laughed softly. "I wish I had all the answers but my creator's a cliffhanging heart-breaker. It could be that your power is coming from someplace good, or at least neutral, especially since it seems like something that would be hard to abuse."

"Oh like I don't know THAT pain If I even have a power," Peter said, raking a hand through his hair. "What if it's just - " Peter hesitated, then decided he could trust Sam. "What if it's just Nathan?"

"Then I guess you wouldn't have to worry about there being something wrong with you," Sam pointed out. "Do you think you'd prefer it if it was just Nathan, and you turned out to be normal?"

"First off, any of that would require getting Nathan to admit it," Peter said. "I don't think he's ready to go there."

"From how you've described him, being ordinary and normal is probably a big deal, huh?"

"Oh he's pretty extraordinary," Peter said. "Just not in the way we mean it around here."

Sam couldn't help but grin at that sentiment. "Not that you have a biased opinion about that or anything."

"Little brothers are the smarter ones, right?" Peter replied with a grin.

"Oh, of course. That's pretty much a given," Sam said. "Which is why it's our job to get our big brothers to see the light and admit things, even if they might not want to, because we're smarter and we know better."

"What if I'm wrong?" Peter asked, before he could stop himself. "What if it was all in my head?"
