Superheroing 101- Tuesday, January 23- 2nd period

When the students arrive in the classroom today, Captain Liberty's looking maybe a little excited. "Okay, realizing that after the radio this weekend, most of you are going to want to hide, you get to spend today dealing with superhero costumes.

"Last week you all got to try to protect your secret identities. Superhero costumes are not only great for doing that, but they kind of make a statement. Hopefully not a bad one," she says. "To help you out, we have a special guest speaker who will help you not suck at this. Hopefully. Please welcome Edna Mode!"

At the end of class, Captain Liberty takes just a minute to say, "And I hoped you all listened well, because the costumes you come up with are going to be displayed at the Superheroing Costume Fashion Show at the assembly in two weeks." She looks really gleeful about that.

[OCD is coming up! Play along!]

"Heeeeeeeello dahlings," said the diminutive figure as she stood in front of the class. "It is so wonderful to see so many future clien- I mean future heroes here today. It's simply MAH-velous. Truly."

"There are many factors that go into a good costume. First? The mask. It must be comfortable yet still allow peripheral vision. It must also stay on your head because the moment it comes off? YOU'RE DEAD!"

Edna cough politely and then cleared her throat. "Next thing to keep in mind is fit. Your costume must be skin tight and show every revealing portion of your body. This is made clear in the government classification 2.4.601. If you are overweight or even slightly pudgy-"

There might be a little wave toward John Crichton

"You will be the laughing stock of the hero world. Buy a treadmill. Cardio is important."

"Color is also very important. The Pastels are definitely in this year but are no doubt a passing fad. Stick with the primary colors and the metallics and you can't go wrong."

"And finally? No capes. This reason should be very apparent to everyone. Any questions?"

Pippi raised her hand.

"What do you think about a 'retro' look?"

Seely raised his hand. "What colour combinations would you recommend?"

John raised his hands. "Yeah, just wanted to let you know that I am not pudgy."

Peter raised his hand. "What about trenchcoats?"

Pippi is actually quite the little seamstress.

Bridge? Is sketching out a costume that, not surprisingly, resembles a Ranger uniform.

Buffy was sketching a uniform that looked surprisingly like the cheerleader uniform combined with vials of holy water, her new cross necklace and more stakes than even she could comfortably carry.

Edward had already been working on a sketch. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168/ThaliatheTiger/DarkerForcesmall.jpg) He frowned at some of the speaker's ideas. His costume was not brightly colored, and he rather liked the cape.

Peter absentmindedly doodled in his notebook. He looked like his mind wasn't totally on the lesson.

Miley was nervously scribbling in her notebook, trying to figure out what to do on Friday.

Cassie... already has a costume. So she's doodling.

Layla was about as good at sewing as she was at knitting (that is, not terribly good) so she focused on sketching her ideas out, trying to come up with something functional, yet attractive. It ended up looking a lot like Jetstream's outfit, only green.

Peter sucked at costume design. He sucked at making costumes. He could have had Zero help him, but he feared what would come of that. He didn't want to wear safety pins in public.

So he mentally said "Screw it" and decided to go with the black costume he had in his room.

As soon as the lecture part of class was over, Will made a beeline for Captain Liberty, hoping to catch the superheroine somewhere where they wouldn't be heard by the rest of the class.

"Um, excuse me, Captain Liberty?" she said, a nervous blush already starting to form.

"What's a fashion show?" Edward asked.
