Superheroing 101- Tuesday, January 23- 2nd period

When the students arrive in the classroom today, Captain Liberty's looking maybe a little excited. "Okay, realizing that after the radio this weekend, most of you are going to want to hide, you get to spend today dealing with superhero costumes.

"Last week you all got to try to protect your secret identities. Superhero costumes are not only great for doing that, but they kind of make a statement. Hopefully not a bad one," she says. "To help you out, we have a special guest speaker who will help you not suck at this. Hopefully. Please welcome Edna Mode!"

At the end of class, Captain Liberty takes just a minute to say, "And I hoped you all listened well, because the costumes you come up with are going to be displayed at the Superheroing Costume Fashion Show at the assembly in two weeks." She looks really gleeful about that.

"Heeeeeeeello dahlings," said the diminutive figure as she stood in front of the class. "It is so wonderful to see so many future clien- I mean future heroes here today. It's simply MAH-velous. Truly."

"There are many factors that go into a good costume. First? The mask. It must be comfortable yet still allow peripheral vision. It must also stay on your head because the moment it comes off? YOU'RE DEAD!"

Edna cough politely and then cleared her throat. "Next thing to keep in mind is fit. Your costume must be skin tight and show every revealing portion of your body. This is made clear in the government classification 2.4.601. If you are overweight or even slightly pudgy-"

There might be a little wave toward John Crichton

"You will be the laughing stock of the hero world. Buy a treadmill. Cardio is important."

"Color is also very important. The Pastels are definitely in this year but are no doubt a passing fad. Stick with the primary colors and the metallics and you can't go wrong."

"And finally? No capes. This reason should be very apparent to everyone. Any questions?"

Pippi raised her hand.

"What do you think about a 'retro' look?"

Re: Heeeere's Edna!

[identity profile] nocapesomg.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"The retro look is very in. Very now and will continue to be in the future," Edna replied as she sipped her espresso. "In fact modern look and future look will just be the retro look so we might as well just call it the current look. mmm-kay?"

"Mmm-kay."

Pippi is taking notes.

"Is there such a thing as a high heel that's too high?"

Seely raised his hand. "What colour combinations would you recommend?"

"Did you not hear the part about primary colors dah-ling?" Edna said rolling her eyes with disdain. "Really you should pay better attention. If Thunderhead had paid better attention and wasn't wearing a cape he'd be alive today. Remember that Captain I-don't-have-a-hairstyle-so-I-Just-use-a-bunch-of-product."

John raised his hands. "Yeah, just wanted to let you know that I am not pudgy."

"I applaud your sense of delusion," Edna said again with the eye-roll. "Remember that some of you are heroes and the others are just sidekicks. Sometimes that difference is just the size of your waistline. Drop the muffins and eat more carrots."

Peter raised his hand. "What about trenchcoats?"

Re: Heeeere's Edna!

[identity profile] nocapesomg.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dear GOD man! Trenchcoats are just as bad as capes only with sleeves!" Edna said with disgust. "Have you never heard what happened to Captain Noir? Poor man was cut to bit because he got to close to the abattoir!"

Teddy raised his hand. "Does it have to be skin tight?"

"If you feel embarassed dah-ling you can always use a sock," Edna replied and then bent over to whisper: "Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly does it all the time but you didn't hear that from me."

Edward raised his hand. "What if the capes were used as a weapon?"

"What if we don't want to wear a costume?" Molly asked stubbornly.

"Then you're not a super-hero, just a schmo in jeans with superpowers. That is hardly glamourous and not embracing the lifestyle," Edna said rolling her eyes.

Katara raised her hand. "What's the point of it being skin tight?" she asked. "What if it's too cold out for that?"

Re: Heeeere's Edna!

[identity profile] nocapesomg.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Skin tight prevents regular tears and snags that a loosie-goosie outfit would entail and allows villains to be distracted by your various body parts," Edna replied. "And there is now thermal regulated spandex available off my website for $34.95 a yard."

Cassie raised a hand.

"What if we already have one suit, and nothing else will really work with our powers?"

Re: Heeeere's Edna!

[identity profile] nocapesomg.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"A good uniform takes into account your powers dah-ling, otherwise it's not a uniform but a costume you wear on Halloween and get little bits of Candy for wearing it," Edna replied "Then when you eat the candy you get pudgy like certain people we know."

There may have been a vague gesture towards John again.

"But what about people who fly?" Layla asked. "I thought capes were an important part of that whole aerodynamic aspect."

"Where do you stand on full masks? Does the benefit of disguising your whole face and muffling your voice outweigh the inconvenience of having to enunciate better and roll the mask up if you need to eat something?" Peter asked.

"Yes. Especially if you are very ugly," Edna replied.
