Ethics [Thursday, December 21th, 6th period]

As everyone arrived, they could see Krycek had the classroom set up like an arts and crafts lab, with a table for each pair to work on and supplies of all sorts awaiting their use. There were egg cartons, cotton, peanut butter, foam, dowels, boxes of all sizes, glue, tape, and many many other materials.

"Welcome to the last part of your Ethics final," Krycek said, passing handouts to every couple and single parent. "You'll be dropping your eggs off a building, but don't worry, you have the chance to build a buffer, so they hopefully don't go 'splat' when they land." Krycek seemed very business-like as he detailed the assignment.

"So have at. Once you guys are done building, we'll head up to the roof to test them out. There will be a discussion question following the experiment and then you guys are free. Good luck and happy finals."

[OOC: Yeah, dubious relation to Ethics, yadda yadda. Mod whatever materials you might need, within reason.]

River waited for Alanna, having collected some large springs and a pillow. She hoped that her boiling the egg before handing it over to her co-egg parent wouldn't become too obvious.

"I'm not doing this," Aeryn decides, not even looking at the materials. And to think, a week ago she couldn't even be bothered to name the poor egg.

Seely stared at Krycek.

"We are not tossing Ova off a building."

Jamie raises his hand. "Um. Yes. I ate my baby. Is that a problem?"

"We have to drop Bob off the roof?" Jack looked down at Bob, then over at the remarkably unaerodynamic materials available, then up at Tyler. "I'm pretty sure he's not going to bounce."

"Probably not," Tyler agreed, looking from Bob to the materials to Jack. "We want to keep him in one piece, right?" Not that he would consider the alternative, but ... "It's a lot easier if we don't.

"In one piece," he said adamantly. Jack's hands may have curved a bit protectively around the egg. "Definitely. It is the point of the exercise."

Tyler raised his hands. "Yeah, we'd be pretty bad dads if we let him break a week out." He looked at the materials. "Foam might work," he mused.

Relieved, and amused by it, Jack cast his eyes over what they had to work with. "Yeah, foam padding and maybe a little parachute?" He grinned. "Bob's going to be an adventurer."

"That's true, he's going where few eggs have gone before," Tyler agreed. "I think he should be nice and snug if we use some of the cloth to slow his fall. And maybe put him and the foam in a box, so it'll be okay if he lands a little funny."

Nodding, Jack said, "Yup, and some of those foam bead things, extra shock-absorption, just in case." No, he wasn't worried about the egg, except that he totally was. "I'm sure he'll be fine."

"If not, he's dinner," Tyler said, almost cheerfully. "Though the foam wouldn't taste good." He went to retried the foam beads, box, and cloth and string for the parachute, as well as a little extra cloth to swaddle Bob with. "Anything else we need?"

"Not to eat Bob!" Jack shook his head at himself. "He's been out of the fridge for a week, he's probably off. "What about, hmm, I guess the extra weight of sticking springs on the outside would defeat the purpose of the parachute."

"Plus if a wire hit at a funny angle, it could punch into Bob," Tyler agreed. "Could be counterproductive."

He passed the cloth and string to Jack. "I'll wrap up Bob if you work on the parachute."

"True, and hollow Bob would be a bad thing." Jack accepted the string and cloth, saying, "Works for me," and started tying the string onto the cloth.
Unhappy with how secure it was going to be, he went and retrieved a pair of scissors from the table and started cutting holes in the corners of it.

With Bob wrapped in a layer of cloth and tucked into his nest, Tyler took a break from his work. "Why are you cutting at that?"

"Cause if I just tie it around the edges, the string could slide off. With it threaded through holes," he held it up to show there were four small holes in each corner of the cloth, "It'll be more secure." He quickly threaded a string through each hole and knotted it securely, then offered it to Tyler. "Only question is how to attach it. Tape, maybe?"

"Clever," Tyler said. "And I think punching holes and knotting it through might work better than tape. No chance of it coming loose in the fall."

"Agreed." Jack sat back, looking very amused at both of them. "All this effort for an egg seems kind of ridiculous, but I'd like to see Bob survive to the end."

"We are taking our son's health very seriously," Tyler said. "But it can't hurt our grade."

He poked holes in the box and knotted the threads through. "Think Bob's ready to fly?"

Jack nodded. "Let's do it."

"I refuse to drop my egg," Bel said. "We were supposed to care for them like a child, and I wouldn't drop my child off the roof. A year ago, maybe, but not now." He looked around for Isabel to back him up here.

Maia looked over the materials before deciding on some egg crate matressing. Very carefully she taped the eggcrate material around Harold after she scotch taped his entire egg itself. Carefully using electrical tape she reinforced the eggcrate. Grabbing her shoebox container she lined it with twinkies and peeps marshmallows. Grinning happily she laid her egg in the middle of the box.

Grabbing several gallon sized ziplock bags she filled them with water and taped those all around her box as well reinforcing every inch with more electrical tape. Finally finished with her buffer/holder she waiting to go with the other up to the top of the school to drop it off.

Tyler and Jack took Bob to the roof. "Go in peace," Tyler said, while Jack gave the egg in its box a solemn pat.

The parachute caught the air, and the box floated gently to the ground. When its "fathers" went down and opened the box, he was in one piece.

"I think he enjoyed the trip," Tyler suggested. "And now, dinner." But it was clear he was joking.

Being a single parent Maia grinned down at the water cushion, peep/twinkie filled shoe box that held her egg baby. "Hope you make it safe and sound little dude." Maia leaned over the edge, hanging her hands down she let go and watched the box drop.

The heavy duty tape seemed to help cushion the ziplocks from breaking to hell on impact. In fact Maia didn't even see any water coming out of the baggies, she guessed the tape had held it all in.

"I couldn't do it, and the fact that it's an egg is irrelevant," Rory said. "We were charged with protecting them like children, and that just puts way too many variables out of control, regardless of whether Sheila would have been okay or not. Hell, I wouldn't drop Vladdie off the roof, and he can fly."
