Ethics [Thursday, December 21th, 6th period]

As everyone arrived, they could see Krycek had the classroom set up like an arts and crafts lab, with a table for each pair to work on and supplies of all sorts awaiting their use. There were egg cartons, cotton, peanut butter, foam, dowels, boxes of all sizes, glue, tape, and many many other materials.

"Welcome to the last part of your Ethics final," Krycek said, passing handouts to every couple and single parent. "You'll be dropping your eggs off a building, but don't worry, you have the chance to build a buffer, so they hopefully don't go 'splat' when they land." Krycek seemed very business-like as he detailed the assignment.

"So have at. Once you guys are done building, we'll head up to the roof to test them out. There will be a discussion question following the experiment and then you guys are free. Good luck and happy finals."

[OOC: Yeah, dubious relation to Ethics, yadda yadda. Mod whatever materials you might need, within reason.]

"Well...I wouldn't drop Aly I wouldn't drop her off of a building. Or hell, anyother kid, no matter how annoying. But it's an egg and flying eggs are cool."

Alanna stared at Krycek. "One? It's an egg. Two? I had a bad weekend. Er...Friday afternoon. Weekend long Friday afternoon." She blinked a few times to make that sentance make sense in her own head. "Whatever. The point is, it's just an egg and no matter what you do to it? It'll stay an edible object."

"You do not toss kids off buildings, even if they are only eggs."

"Some orders need to be disobeyed," Aeryn says seriously. "You fight it or you find a way around it, but you don't do that to children. Even hypothetical ones."

"I couldn't do it, and the fact that it's an egg is irrelevant," Rory said. "We were charged with protecting them like children, and that just puts way too many variables out of control, regardless of whether Sheila would have been okay or not. Hell, I wouldn't drop Vladdie off the roof, and he can fly."

"It was an egg. I don't form attachment to eggs," River said. "It wasn't even a potential chicken." She folded her arms across her chest. "I still find it strange that a lot of people can form attachment to eggs and be considered normal, while I got confused reactions when I expressed an attachment to my painted octopus Proty. I'm more protective of my paintings, who metaphorically speaking are children of my imagination." She then added: "I also wouldn't throw a real baby off a roof. I'd prefer to give it to someone else."

Tyler likes River more than he has for a very long time, and he gives her a tiny smile at that.

River gave him a surprised look but managed some kind of smile back.

Tyler shrugged, a little embarrassed, and mouthed, "good answer."

"It was an egg," Tyler shrugged. "I knew we could build a box to keep it safe. If it broke, we could go to the store and get a replacement. Not the same thing as a kid at all."

"You don't drop children off buildings. Period. Not even fake egg children. And, you got us attached to our fake egg children by making us care for them for a week and then told us to drop them off the building."

"No. You did tell us to treat them like our children. Which it would be unethical to drop off a building in dubious protective gear."

"Why not?" D tilted her head, "being given a certain set of instructions one week, and receiving the polar opposite the next without rhyme or reason wasn't stable enough grounds for a reversal of action."

Had they been discussing this outside of class her response would have been more a long the lines of, 'you're a sick man and got way too much enjoyment from that, my friend,' but they weren't, so it wasn't.

"One, I don't eat eggs. We will not discuss bacon, it's a different animal." D shook a finger at him. "Second, the assignment could have very well been a set up. Just another way for Vader and the rest of the staff here to test our limits. To find out just how much we were willing to do just because we were told to, and how much personal authority we were willing to fork over for passing grades."

It was possible she'd been thinking a wee too much on this thanks to nearly losing Egg in her Myth into History class earlier.

It was also possible that she should simply switch to decaf.

D'anna raised an eyebrow and her mouth quirked into a slow but sure grin. "Yes."

Which did him absolutely no good as it sent D into very quiet snickers.

"I know it's an egg," Stark said, "but if we're supposed to pretend it's a child, treat it like a child as much as you can treat an egg like a child, then we can't go around dropping the eggs off buildings. Wouldn't drop a real child, why would I drop an egg child? And someone who ordered me to is not someone I would be listening to orders from."
