Library, Saturday evening

After this morning's adventures in town, Isabel hit the library to start researching. Surely somewhere in the books there was some kind of information about trolls. Every once in a while she'd look out the window and fret at the fighting.

[open for the research folks! Going AFK for about 30 minutes.]

Across town an eyebrow raised. "I rather thought it best to find out what was already known before I started researching," Alfred replied. "If it helps, they appear to turn to stone upon death."

"Cleanup doesn't concern me. Do you know how to cause them death?" she asks.

"So far the general things work," Alfred said. "Shooting, blades, etc. Although it requires generally more than the usual amount to attack. And not all trolls turn to stone on death. That should help narrow the field somewhat, I imagine."

Hermione finds a pen to write this down. "So some turn to stone and some don't. Does that make any difference in how to kill them? Does it make it easier to kill one type or another? How do you know which is which?"

"My dear, we must be scientific about this. There are thousands of legends about trolls. They all have different characteristics, so we must narrow the field as closely as we can. Those that turn to stone might have different weaknesses than those that don't. We do know, for example, that they are attacking during the day time. Therefore, they are not the kind of trolls that turn to stone during the day."

Hermione sighs, maybe a little frustrated. "Yes, I understand that much. But I don't care about what they aren't. I care about what they are. Please do just cut out any information that won't help us."

"My dear, finding out what they aren't helps us find out what they are. There are a limited number of legends in the world. And there is no such thing as unhelpful information," Alfred responded.

"They don't appear to be intent on attacking anything or having any sort of real goals so much as going on a general rampage."

Hermione rubs her temple. "They are outside the school. They are attacking. All right, how about this. You keep what they aren't to yourself and tell me what they bloody are. We'll limit it so as not to waste any more time."

Alfred sighed. "Is there anyone else actually interested in solving the problem that I could speak with?"

"Oh, I have written down everything you've told me, except none of it is information we need," she says heatedly. "Volunteer something that makes you necessary or I'm going back to concentrating on getting accurate and useful information!"

"Oh? And you've decided that it is all useless information? My dear, how exactly do you define accurate and useful information? Do you want me to walk outside and try different things until I find something that makes the trolls explode instantly? When we know nothing, we must take into account everything."

"Right now you are probably sitting in a room watching 'the action', as you call it, and to me, useful is something that actually helps me. Hearing that they aren't the kind of trolls that turn to stone in the day? I do not care," she says. "If they turn to stone at night, that would help. Right now you're just talking apparently because you like the sound of your own voice and want to seem more informative than you actually are. And stop calling me 'my dear'!"

"Judging from your accent, the only reason you're alive is because of the countless years I spent in the Secret Service keeping you alive. I will tell you whatever it is you want, if you promise to actually do some work and start looking up troll mythology instead of counting on everyone else in the room to actually do all the brain work for you."

Hermione hates this guy, and is almost ready to cry out of frustration.

"Bugger off, you self-important little man," she tells him, and hangs up on him.
