Library, Saturday evening

After this morning's adventures in town, Isabel hit the library to start researching. Surely somewhere in the books there was some kind of information about trolls. Every once in a while she'd look out the window and fret at the fighting.

Yomiko peered out of the office. Wasn't today Saturday? Why were there students in the library? "Isabel? Is something wrong?"

After hearing the mornings announcment, Briar headed for the library with most of his collection of daggers hidden beneath various layers of clothing.

Hermione heads straight to the library after the announcement, carrying several books sold in the wizarding world and asking, "Do we know what they look like? I brought research materials."

"There are trolls, or at least things that looks amazing troll-like tearing up the town," Isabel explained. "I was thinking that maybe we could find out something about them here in the books."

"Briar!" Isabel said. "Feel like doing research?"

"They're big and ugly and a piece of driftwood upside the head really doesn't slow them down," Isabel said in a rush.

Briar smiled at Isabel. "That's why I'm here. I'm limited to Co-English though."

"Right," Yomiko said. "Wait here."

She went into the librarian's office and returned with a new box of dragon-hide gloves, her briefcase, and the key to Special Collections.

"Any volunteers for Special Collections?" she called as she set the box of gloves down on the table. "This time only, no teacher's note required!"

The briefcase, she didn't set down. In fact, it seemed to be handcuffed to her wrist.

"I think we're more likely to find useful information in there," Isabel said. "I'm in."

Like Briar would turn down an opportunity like that. "Ma'am?"

"Hmm..." Just then Ms. Readman came out prepared to go into Special Collections.

"But no species?" she asks, sitting down at a table and already looking through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She's also got all of her Defense Against the Dark Arts books, just in case, along with a few random things she'd picked up over the last few years.

"Great," Yomiko said. "Stay near the entrance. From what I've seen in the former librarians' notes, it may move the books we need closer to us in times of crisis anyway. I'm staying out here to organize people." And guard their retreat, if need be, but Yomiko didn't tell her that. She pushed her glasses up her nose and added, "If you find anything you can't read, bring it to me first."

"Yes?" Yomiko asked him.

"You were looking for volunteers. I'd be glad to help."

"Hello, Hermione," Ms. Readman said. "What sort of research materials?"

"Good." Yomiko tossed him a pair of dragon-hide gloves. "Thank you, Mr..."

"Moss. Briar Moss." Briar easily caught the gloves and put them on, covering his tattoos.

Yomiko was too distracted to even notice the tattoos. She headed to the 'folklore' section and started pulling books off the shelves. "Thank you, Mr. Moss. Stay close to Isabel. Do what she tells you, and don't use this as an excuse to look at porn. If the lights go out, run for the entrance. I don't know what else I can tell you."

Isabel found a pair of gloves and pulled them on. She's heard enough stories that she's not taking any chances. "Okay, stay near the entrance, bring you what I can't read, and no reading anything aloud." She remembered mummies.

"Sorry, most of my experiece with trolls is limited to the ones that hide under bridges in fairytales," Isabel said. "Although I wonder if they're related to all the missing people."

"Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, by Newt Scamander, my Defense Against the Dark Arts books, some notes, particularly from my third year, and several smaller texts on various creatures I picked up," she rattled off.

Hermione brightened. "Trolls? I helped fight one, once!"

"What?" Yomiko was already reading a book on gnomes. "Sure. If you think it will help."

"You think this is a magical event?" Yomiko asked doubtfully.
