Library [11/30]

Rory decided to do her Christmas cards early this year, so when she stumbled into the library that morning, she had a stack of those as well as her coffee and laptop.

"Me neither," Willow agreed. "Unless it's a dancing situation, but you wouldn't hold a dance in a library. The books would get scared."

"I bet some of the books are closet dancers," Rory mused. "But probably more of the ballroom kind rather than, like, into booky raves."

"Oo - except maybe the coloring books?" Willow suggested. "I could see them being into the neon scene."

"But still in a structured way," Rory said with a nod. "Because the lines are in the coloring books for a reason, even if not everyone colors in them."

"Yes!" Willow said, glad that someone understood this. "That's why you color in a hard line around the lines, so that way when you fill in later it's a little barrier to make sure you don't go over and totally ruin the picture and waste the crayon to boot!"

"Yes!" Rory agreed. "And it just looks better and I am all for modern art but there's no need for sloppiness."

"Exactly," Willow said. "Plus there's blank paper if you want to be all over the place. No need to trap the poor little uncolored bunnies and kittens behind a wall of mess, never to see the world or even breathe properly again."

"And depending on the color, it can look very upsetting," Rory said. "Like if there's red scribbling, it's all violent-looking. Or if it's blue? They're drowning."

Willow nodded. "And if it's black you've surrounded them in forever midnight which, okay, probably not a problem for the bats but what about the animals that aren't nocturnal? To say nothing of the flowers who can't photosynthesize!"

"And orange looks all fiery which isn't good for anyone!" Rory said woefully.

"And yellow means they've all got liver disease!" Willow replied.

"Green is seasickness," Rory said sadly.

"Blue is depression," Willow added.

"Purple is suffocation," Rory sighed.

"Fuschia is bad fish," Willow said.

"Gold is a bad tan," said Rory.

"Bronze feels bad because everybody thinks it's pretending to be gold," Willow said.

"And silver, no matter how pretty it is, always feels like second-best," Rory said.

Willow nodded solemnly. "Especially since everybody thinks it's grey putting on airs."

"And really, grey is just a kind of dingy white," she added.

"And white never shows up!" Willow said, offended on the color's behalf. "You rub and rub and no matter what color your paper is nothing really comes of it."

"It shows up as kind of clearish ick on black paper," Rory offered.

"True, but in that case they should call it clear," Willow said. "Though if you rub it on red it does pink it up a bit."

"Maybe its whole purpose is to just lighten the other colors?" Rory suggested. "White is just the helper of the group?"

"Huh," Willow said, thoughtfully. "I could see that. Like it's job is to show the other colors they don't have to be trapped into one part of the spectrum. They can branch out!"
