Rory decided to do her Christmas cards early this year, so when she stumbled into the library that morning, she had a stack of those as well as her coffee and laptop.

"Gold is a bad tan," said Rory.

"Bronze feels bad because everybody thinks it's pretending to be gold," Willow said.

"And silver, no matter how pretty it is, always feels like second-best," Rory said.

Willow nodded solemnly. "Especially since everybody thinks it's grey putting on airs."

"And really, grey is just a kind of dingy white," she added.

"And white never shows up!" Willow said, offended on the color's behalf. "You rub and rub and no matter what color your paper is nothing really comes of it."

"It shows up as kind of clearish ick on black paper," Rory offered.

"True, but in that case they should call it clear," Willow said. "Though if you rub it on red it does pink it up a bit."

"Maybe its whole purpose is to just lighten the other colors?" Rory suggested. "White is just the helper of the group?"

"Huh," Willow said, thoughtfully. "I could see that. Like it's job is to show the other colors they don't have to be trapped into one part of the spectrum. They can branch out!"

"Sadly black doesn't work the same way, though you would think it would," Rory replied sadly.

"It's too strong for that," Willow agreed. "It's hard for it to share."

"I suppose purple or brown might work. Or really dark blue," Rory said thoughtfully.

"Or a combination," Willow pointed out. "Maybe the real lesson here is color teamwork."

"Ooh, yes! This is what they should be teaching tiny children in school," Rory said excitedly.

"Someone could write a book about it!" Willow agreed.

"A coloring book," Rory enthused.

"We should do this," Willow decided.

"We should," Rory agreed. "And we could give the book away to tiny children in orphanages, or something!"

"Complete with a little set of crayons!"
