Yomiko opened the library on time and, inspired by that crazy girl she'd met over the weekend, took several bartending guides off the shelf to read during the day. What bartending guides were doing in a high school library, she wasn't really sure. Some sort of research for papers on the dangers of underaged drinking, maybe?

First Period

Vodka Martini
1 1/2 oz vodka
dash dry vermouth

Combine ingredients with cracked ice in a shaker. Shake well. Strain and serve in a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an olive.

Well, that seemed simple enough.

Second Period

Hmm, apparently most martinis were made with gin until Smirnoff bought product placement in some spy movies (Yomiko didn't watch much TV, or go to the movies, so she'd never heard of them) that were wildly popular. Fancy that.

Third Period

Cosmopolitan
3/4 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1 oz cranberry juice
1/2 oz lime juice

Add ingredients to cocktail mixer, shake, then strain into a chilled martini glass.

Fourth Period

And the Cosmopolitan owed its popularity to a TV show about women in New York talking about their sex lives. My, was there anything they wouldn't make a TV show about?

Lunch

The library was closed for lunch. Only library personnel and people the library personnel let be in there should be around.

Lunch did not contain alcohol.

Fifth Period

Pina Colada
2 oz light rum
3 oz pineapple juice
2 oz Coco Lopez coconut cream
ice

Mix in blender and pour into colada glass. Serve with cherry and pineapple spear.

Janet wandered into the library, curious to see how the place had changed since last year, and also possibly because she needed to check out some mythology books. They were a little too basic to be on Daniel's shelves.

"Hey," said Janet, coming over to the Collections Desk. "I just thought I'd check out the library. I haven't been in here since I actually worked in here last year. Thought I"d see if there were any changes."

"Oh, you used to work in here? I'm Ms. Readman, I'm the new librarian." She looked around and said, "I don't think it's changed much, but then I wouldn't know, would I? Would you like a bookmark?" she asked, grabbing one off the stack and holding it out.

"The bookmarks are new, anyway," said Janet, taking a bookmark and inspecting it. "Do you still allow library aides to go after overdue books with threats of violence?"

"I brought them. They're good luck! And if you put one in a romance novel, you'll dream of your true love! Um." Yomiko tilted her head thoughtfully. "You know, I don't think we've had any problems with overdue books. I wonder if that's why..."

"We were a little infamous," admitted Janet. "So, my true love, huh? Maybe I'll check out a romance novel instead of mythology."

"There's a very extensive romance section. But you probably knew that already," Yomiko said wryly.

Sixth Period

Yomiko was bored with reading about alcohol, so she started working on some paperwork that needed to be taken care of.

Sometimes Hermione needs to study somewhere other than her room, which is why she's in the library with a full bookbag. She gives Yomiko a smile, and wonders if she's going to be told again to just get a bookbag with wheels.

"Hello, Miss Granger," Yomiko said. "I don't think I've seen you in here for a while."

"I've had a lot of studying to do," she explains. "Everything was already there, so I didn't leave my room much. And from the sounds of it, it's been too busy usually to get much studying done anyway."

"Not on Mondays," Yomiko said cheerfully. "It's usually pretty empty today."

"I'm going to have to remember that," she says, making a mental note. "It's impossible to get any work done with everyone talking away like they don't have important things to be doing."

"Well, they're teenagers," Ms. Readman said, remembering how annoying people had been when she was in school. "I'm afraid it comes with the territory."

Hermione sighs, completely ignoring that part where she is sixteen. "Honestly, you'd think they could focus for more than five seconds!"

"I know." It made her remember being sixteen and how impossible it was to get any work done. And how having her nose buried in a book had resulted in no friends. "But sometimes maybe it's best to just go along with them?"

Seventh Period

Ms. Readman went into her office and shut the door to make a phone call to the British Library.
