Library [11/20]

Yomiko opened the library on time and, inspired by that crazy girl she'd met over the weekend, took several bartending guides off the shelf to read during the day. What bartending guides were doing in a high school library, she wasn't really sure. Some sort of research for papers on the dangers of underaged drinking, maybe?

Sometimes Hermione needs to study somewhere other than her room, which is why she's in the library with a full bookbag. She gives Yomiko a smile, and wonders if she's going to be told again to just get a bookbag with wheels.

"Hello, Miss Granger," Yomiko said. "I don't think I've seen you in here for a while."

"I've had a lot of studying to do," she explains. "Everything was already there, so I didn't leave my room much. And from the sounds of it, it's been too busy usually to get much studying done anyway."

"Not on Mondays," Yomiko said cheerfully. "It's usually pretty empty today."

"I'm going to have to remember that," she says, making a mental note. "It's impossible to get any work done with everyone talking away like they don't have important things to be doing."

"Well, they're teenagers," Ms. Readman said, remembering how annoying people had been when she was in school. "I'm afraid it comes with the territory."

Hermione sighs, completely ignoring that part where she is sixteen. "Honestly, you'd think they could focus for more than five seconds!"

"I know." It made her remember being sixteen and how impossible it was to get any work done. And how having her nose buried in a book had resulted in no friends. "But sometimes maybe it's best to just go along with them?"

Hermione frowns, and asks, "Why?"

"Well," Yomiko flailed. "So you can make friends?"

"I have friends," she says. "They're across an ocean and living eleven years back in time, but I have them." She no longer finds this weird.

"That's a long way from here," Yomiko observed. She didn't know why she was doing this; it wasn't like she could talk.

"That's more than I probably should have," Hermione points out, and she doesn't actually have a problem with this. "I'm at school to learn, not to socialize."

"It only gets harder as time goes on," Yomiko said softly.

"But then I'll get to go back," she says, but she's frowning a little now.

"Well, yes, that's true," Yomiko agreed.

"I have people I can talk to," Hermione tries.

"That's good!" Yomiko said brightly. "I remember when I was your age--um. Well. Okay, look, my one friend turned out to be an evil clone of Mata Hari."

"Well?" she asks, looking interested.

"I'm probably not the best example," Ms. Readman muttered. "But I'm distracting you from your studies!"

"I should get to that, yes," she says. "It was nice to see you again, Ms. Readman."
