"We were discussing the use of trebuchets that would fling fireballs against the evil marshmallows," Bridge explains. "He said you were a warrior who used fire, so you'd know whether that was a good idea or not."

"Evil marshmallows?" Zuko frowned, he thought he'd heard of marshmallows they seemed to be a food thing. "But yes, I am a firebender."

"Totally evil," Bridge nods. "They con you into eating them and then when you least expect it, launch an attack. What's firebending? If you don't mind me being curious. If you do mind feel free to tell me to shut up because I'm being too nosy, okay?"

"If you ate them, they can't attack you anymore," Zuko pointed out.

It was tempting to just tell him to shut up, but he hadn't exactly been keeping it a secret. "It means that I can control fire."

"That's pretty awesome," Bridge says, impressed. "I wonder if your aura looks different because of that," he ponders.

"You read auras?" Zuko asked.

"Auras are energy, and I can detect pretty much any kind of energy you can think of," Bridge nods.

That definitely caught his attention. "People here don't seem capable of picking up on energy. Where are you from?"

"Newtech City, California. Fifteen years into the future, though, so it doesn't actually exist yet."

Zuko wondered why he'd even bothered asking that question. "Can you manipulate the energy?"

"Depends on your definition of manipulate," Bridge says. "I can't, like, physically touch someone's aura. But in a fight? I can see someone move a few seconds before they actually will, and can counter it accordingly."

"Energy can tell you that?" Zuko looked confused. He'd never been able to foresee someone's moves. That seemed unfair.

Bridge nods. "The future exists as... potential energy? I'm not sure if I'm explaining that very well."

"I suppose," Zuko didn't sound all too convinced, though.

"You don't sound convinced," Bridge says dryly.

Zuko shrugged. "I can sense the energy around me. It's never allowed me to predict what someone is going to do."

"Maybe you can, but you just don't know you can," Bridge says. "Do you actually *see* it, or do you just feel that the energy is there?"

"I sense it," Zuko replied. "I can manipulate it to some extent."

"I wonder what that'd look like, when you're manipulating it?" Bridge says contemplatively.

Zuko shrugged again. "I don't know." He was so helpful.

"I think we should try it and see!" Bridge bounces in his seat a little.

The bouncing was a little bit disturbing and reminded him of that Blair kid. "Do you need to do anything special to see it?" Zuko asked.

"Just take off a glove," Bridge says, holding up a hand and wiggling his fingers.

"Okay," Zuko gave Bridge a sceptical look. "Do it."

"Okay, ready." Bridge says, taking off a glove and holding one hand up towards Zuko, focusing on the other boy's aura.
