Ethics [Thursday, November 9, 6th period]

Vader swept into the room and slammed the door behind him as usual.

"Immortality," he intoned, pacing in front of the class, mental walls incredibly strong. On this topic most of all, he had no interest in students poking around in his head. "Many beings have made life-altering choices in order to avoid dying, or to try to avoid someone they love dying. They've broken under torture, they've made pacts with powerful beings, they've sold their souls like a commodity. They've cloned themselves, murdered thousands, created machines to stop the passage of time."

Vader's cape billowed out around him as he turned. "Today's discussion is not about why all sentient and mortal beings seem to fear death. Today, you shall discuss what you would be prepared to give up if it would guarantee that you would live forever."

Vader crossed his arms over his chest. "So if I were to tell you you'd die young and in a painful way, you would just let it happen?"

"Death? Yeah. Been there done that," Jamie said trying not to yawn. "It's tough to die when there's another duplicate out there who can step into your place. Or if you're from where I'm from you just wait a while and when the writers want your character back some weird cosmic event will bring you back to life. I've known people who have died at least three times so... yeah. No big."

Vader nodded, internally boggling that he was agreeing with something Jamie was saying. "So you do not fear death, then," he said.

Zero thought her answer over carefully before she said, "I think a better question is, why would you want to live forever? Because everyone you love is going to die eventually, an' you'll be left alone. Unless everyone else is immortal, too, in which case, whoa, overpopulation much? Death is just...part of living."

"It would depend on what you mean by live forever," Jack said. "Do you mean never age? Or would you just keep getting older but never die. Because I only want to live forever if I can stay young and pretty."

Sam's hands clenched in her lap. "I have no desire to live forever, but to prevent someone else I loved from dying? I'd die myself in a fiery explosion."

Elizabeth shook her head. "I wouldn't want to live forever either," she said. "Maybe at some point imortality is the next stage in our evolution, but humans as we are now are meant to die."

Stark's pretty comfortable with death, or at least used to it, except when it comes to certain people. Immortality isn't natural, and that bothers him.

"Wouldn't want to live forever. Why would I? Things have to end, people have to end."

"I won't live forever but I'll live for a very long time." Maia said leaning back in her chair. "I already know that though, but if I had a choice, I don't think I'd want to live forever because the way this world is going to end." She shook her head "I think I'd rather not be around to see it."

This was an odd question. Really. "Why do you want to live forever?" she asked Vader. Not that she minded living, but forever was a long time.

The last thing Bel needed was heavy thoughts on virtual immortality (barring a vanquish potion) as opposed to girlfriends aging, so he remained mostly silent, thinking about Vegas instead.

*head.desk* Sorry for missing yesterday (when I didn't have to as apposed to other times), nothing was uber wrong other than me being stupid. I thought today was Thursday and yesterday Wednesday.
