Ethics [Thursday, November 9, 6th period]

Vader swept into the room and slammed the door behind him as usual.

"Immortality," he intoned, pacing in front of the class, mental walls incredibly strong. On this topic most of all, he had no interest in students poking around in his head. "Many beings have made life-altering choices in order to avoid dying, or to try to avoid someone they love dying. They've broken under torture, they've made pacts with powerful beings, they've sold their souls like a commodity. They've cloned themselves, murdered thousands, created machines to stop the passage of time."

Vader's cape billowed out around him as he turned. "Today's discussion is not about why all sentient and mortal beings seem to fear death. Today, you shall discuss what you would be prepared to give up if it would guarantee that you would live forever."

Sam glanced quickly at Jack and apologized to him silently. Because she wouldn't sacrifice her soul for Jack, if she even had one. But there were other people for whom she'd at least consider it. "Which principles?"

Vader paused, considering. "Which ones would you consider disposable?" he replied.

"None of them. That's why they're principles." She wasn't going to make it easy for him, after all.

Vader's gloves creaked. "Spying. Pretending to be someone's friend while reporting back their movements and thoughts to someone else," he began with. After all, that had been one of his tipping points.

Sam thought of Daniel, Teal'c, and O'Neill. Of them yelling at her not to do it. Of the greater good, which never seemed to run in her favor. "To save them, even knowing they would never look at me with anything other than loathing?" She ducked her head, and said quietly, "Yes."

"You'd be far from the first to do so, Miss Carter," Vader said, then turned his attention to another student.
