Rory bustled sleepily into the library with her laptop, coffee, and a special and very sleepy visitor in her bag.

She was hoping no one would really notice that last one.

"Of course!" she said, motioning John behind the desk. Vladdie was hovering midair under the desk, pawing at nothing.

John moved around the desk and saw the little hovering dog.

"Vladdie! Nice to not see you!"

Vladdie yipped a greeting back. "He's not here because he wasn't really clingy when I woke up this morning. I don't blame Angel's visit."

"Everyone's allowed to be clingy," John said with a nod. "Even itty bitty dogs."

Rory glanced at him, poking Vladdie a little so he'd roll over in the air. Or she would have, if he had been there at all. Which he wasn't, really. "When'd you get back?"

"Oh, Monday night," he said. "I kinda fell asleep as soon as I got home."

Rory nodded. "Did you see Angel yesterday?"

"In class," he said. "Told him about Toasty and all that jazz."

"I don't think he ever really gave a straight answer," John said, trying to remember. "Besides, Aeryn loves Toasty. How could I separate them?"

"Not if we clean it up eventually," she replied, and no, she didn't know that for sure but this was important.
