Today the room is arranged so that a movie screen hanging on the wall is easily viewable from all the chairs. In addition to the usual scones, cookies and muffins, there is also popcorn and gummi worms.

"Today we're going to have a brief lecture, followed by a movie. No homework, since you have no classes next week. I hope you all enjoy your break."

Dean was sporting a hell of a shiner but seemed happy enough as he settled in to watch the movie.

Sam sat down by Dean and did a double take as he saw his face. "Dean, what happened?" he asked, whispering sharply.

"Huh?" Dean said intelligently around a mouthful of popcorn, blinking at his brother.

"Your eye," Sam replied. "What happened to you. Are you okay?"

"Oh, this?" Dean waved the hand not holding the popcorn at his shiner and shook his head. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it. Got it sparring yesterday."

Sam's frown might have gotten a little wider at that. "Sparring with who? That's not nothing."

"Alec. And yeah, it's nothing. It's not my first shiner and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be my last. Don't make more out of it than it is," Dean warned.

"Alec hit you?" Yes, that was really all Sam managed to pick up. "Please tell me you beat the crap out of him before he got you?"

"If you don't actually remember that you hit each other when you spar, then it's been way too long since I've had you on the mats," Dean told him.

"But this is different," Sam explained. "You shouldn't be sparring with Alec - he's too strong, and he's got too much of an advantage over you. It's not fair, and you're bound to get even more hurt than this."

"I can handle myself," Dean said defensively. "Besides Alec being faster and stronger is kinda the point -- it can only make me better to spar with someone who can kick my ass."

Sam felt his stomach churn in that annoyingly jealous way it often did when the conversation was about Alec, and simply nodded. "I guess," he said, turning back to look at the movie screen.

Dean reached over and poked Sam's arm. "One of the reasons why I like sparring with you too," he said. "You've got the potential even if you don't believe it."

"What the heck happened to you?" Dawn asked, reaching over to poke at Dean's eye.

Dean flinched away from her finger. "Zigged when I should've zagged during a sparring session," he replied. "It's nothing. Really."

"Ouch," she winced, then glanced over at Sam to make sure she hadn't missed him being all bruised. "Who'd you spar with?"

"Um..." Dawn wasn't sure exactly how to phrase what she wanted to say. "Was that a good idea? And is that the worst of it?"

"Actually Alec got the worst of it," Dean said. "He pulled or sprained some muscles in his left shoulder. But he heals fast."

"I suppose you guys are too tough for things like pads and helmets?"

Dean blinked. "Generally there's no time for pads or helmets in a real fight. Gotta practice the way you actually will do it for real."

Dawn reluctantly admitted that Dean's reasoning made sense. "Except now it's going to take you time to get better, right? And that's time you could be using for practice, instead of lying there, being all ouchy."

"It's a black eye, not a broken back," Dean pointed out. "Not exactly something that requires a lot of bed rest."

"You said you messed up Alec's shoulder, too," she reminded him.

"Yeah," Dean said, a little more serious. "That was an accident. First time we sparred, we're still learning how each other moves. But he heals fast. It won't put him out of commision for long."
