Good Omens...And Bad: Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Lab Eight

Today the room is arranged so that a movie screen hanging on the wall is easily viewable from all the chairs. In addition to the usual scones, cookies and muffins, there is also popcorn and gummi worms.

"Today we're going to have a brief lecture, followed by a movie. No homework, since you have no classes next week. I hope you all enjoy your break."

"I give as good as I get," Dean told him. "And dude, don't you even try to pull that jealous hurt routine over this. I wouldn't need to go looking for someone to spar with if you don't keep turning me down when I ask you."

"I didn't know that occasionally turning you down would make you turn to Alec. Consider my lesson learned." Knowing that he was being childish about this didn't seem to do anything to stop him.

Dean resisted the urge to roll his eyes. For one, it would probably hurt right now and for another it wouldn't help to make Sam even pissier. "Look, Sammy, you're my brother. You're always going to be my brother. Nothing's going to change that. It's not really something you have to worry about getting usurped."

Sam still wasn't looking at Dean, but he was listening. "I'm going to remember that you said that, and your feelings ever change, I'm going to call you on it," he warned.

"They won't," Dean said with complete confidence. He smiled a little. "It's kinda a big part of my identity."

The smile made Sam feel a little better, but not better enough to keep him from wanting to punch Alec again. "Are you sure you're okay? I've got some ointment back in my room that might help your eye, if you want it."

"The stuff Missouri made up for us before we left back in the spring?" Dean asked. "Hell that stuff practically works magic. Sure, I'll take some of it."

That got an actual smile out of Sam; at least he could still be somewhat useful. "All right, I'll bring it by after I'm done in the library."

"That would be great, thanks." Dean hesitated and eyed his brother. "Hey Sammy, you want to do something this weekend?" he finally asked.

"Like what?" Sam asked, giving Dean a curious look.

"I dunno. Whatever you want. Do something here, go out somewhere, hell, we could go to the mainland if you wanted and catch a movie or something if you want."

"Really?" Sam perked up visibly, smiling at Dean. "That would be awesome. We can't do it during the day tomorrow, but if you want to do something at night, or on Sunday..."

"Oh right, I heard the announcement. Detention lottery. Sucks to you, dude."

Sam grumbled, but there wasn't nearly as much anger in the noise as he'd had a few minutes before. "I wouldn't mind getting detention when I've broken a rule, but it's annoying to get it when I haven't done anything wrong."

"Yeah, seems really unfair to make you dress up as a vampire or something when you didn't do anything." Dean grinned at him. "S'pose you can look at it as paying in advance for the next bad thing you do."

"Except that unlike you, I don't do bad things all that often," Sam replied.

"Maybe you should start," Dean suggested. "Then when you get random detention, at least you'll have done something to deserve it."

"Or I could continue to be a good person and know that I never deserve detention."

"If that's more satisfying for you when you're sitting in detention," Dean said with a grin and a shrug. "So how 'bout we do something Sunday? You want to go offisland?"

"Yeah," Sam replied eagerly. "I'm sure we could find something to do. Can I ask what brought this on?"

Sammy's reaction to the news that Dean was sparring with Alec was what brought it on, but Dean wasn't about to admit that. "What, I need a reason to want to spend some time with my brother?"

Sam had a feeling that Dean was trying to make things up to him concerning Alec, but he was willing to accept Dean's actual response too. "I guess not. And it's been a while since we hung out, just the two of us. Do you think Dad will let us take the car?"

"Probably. If not, I'll see if Alec will let me borrow his bike." He grinned. "You ever tried out one of those hover bikes?"

"No, I haven't. I thought Alec was the only one with one of those now that Anakin's gone. I can't exactly see myself getting on a bike with him."

"How 'bout with me?" Dean's grin widened. "Maybe I should see if I can get the bike for the day..."
