The Fandom High Tour! Saturday afternoon

At 1:00, The Tick was standing outside the school doors, waiting for any family or friends who may show up. Once they had a good group and it didn't seem like anyone else was coming, Tick said, "Well, I think that's everyone! Hello, and welcome to Fandom High! I am The Tick, Dean of Students here, and I will be your Virgil as we descend into the Seven Circles that we call school!"

The Tick thought for a moment. "Not that I'm suggesting that this school is the underworld. I was really just going with the concept of the Guide character in classic literature. Anyway, let's head on in! And if you have any questions, please ask!"

[OOC: After I get all of the OCD up, I'll be heading to work for a few hours. I shall be slow, but available to have Tick answer any questions.

This is a half-play post, half-linkdrop. Teachers who are not specifically linked to in the OCD, if you could post a link to your classroom or office post in the Classrooms OOC thread, that would be appreciated. Parents can break away from the tour to talk to those any teachers. The tour will go slowly enough to not lose people.

Parents, you can ping in wherever you might have something specific to comment on, or wherever you might talk to someone about something. Considering how many threads there are, though, and how many people may be in here, I wouldn't mind if comments that just check into the room thread are left out for the sakes of everyone's browsers.

There is also a general mingling in the dorm lobby thread if anyone wants to end the tour in another big group meeting. :) ]

Sydney looked around him. "Impressive." He wandered over to the base of the telescope and examined it with the air of someone who didn't have any clue how to use it, but would like to.

"The actual project I'm working on with Marie is a survey of the off-planet students about their home planets, and how that influences their reactions to Earth," Parker said. "Not exactly something I could share with Daddy."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney offered her a wry smile. "I can see that. Is your friend Marie one of the students from... another world?" He shook his head. "I'll never get used to that."

"Another dimension. Same planet, different timeline." Parker looked amused. "I didn't think I ever would, either, but it's almost a form question now. 'Are you from this planet, time, dimension?' I'm actually one of the boring people here, Syd. At least as far as my reality goes." She patted the telescope. "Some people look for their home planets from here."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney's smile softened to just a warmth in the eyes. "I wonder what they see when they look at their homes from so far." His gaze sharpened again, and he turned to her. "And I sincerely doubt that at any point you could be considered boring. And given your reports about how your classmates rely on you for leadership, I doubt that they would describe you in that way, either."

Parker cocked an eyebrow, and smirked a little. "Did I say they rely on me?" She shrugged. "I'm not on StuCo this year, Syd. And my rep for reliability is matched by the scary-girl rep. So, yes. I can intimidate people from other planets?" She grinned. "There are worse things, I suppose."

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"You didn't have to say that they rely on you, Parker. When you mention that they are asking your advice and requesting your aid, I make my own inferances. And," he said, raising his eyebrows for emphasis, "I imagine that anyone who is afraid of you has good reason to be. Reason beyond that you are 'scary'."

Amused, Parker swung around the telescope, and shrugged, trying to look innocent. "There's been less reason than last year. We haven't even been invaded since the Jell-O dragons." Parker's expression dared Sydney to ask.

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm truly frightened by the things you don't tell me about, given the number of the things that you do." More seriously, he said, "Although discretion when you call me is a wise choice. Possibly more so now."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker nodded, her eyes sober even though her smile was still in place. "I know. The minions still having fun doing spot-checks on you?" She looked annoyed. "Does that ever stop?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney inclined his head. "Why would I ever expect it to? But that's the beauty of you being away at school. You're not under their eyes constantly. And you've bloomed here. Come into your own. It's a joy to see."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker's smile belied the mocking tone of her words. "Flattery, flattery. You make me sound like a daffodil. Instead of a very very thorny rose." She shrugged lightly. "I like it here. It isn't boring, and the people are-- interesting." She paced over to him, leaning on the balustrade running the length of the observatory. "I didn't tell you what my second plan after Harvard is now, did I?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney leaned back on the balustrade next to her. "No, you didn't. What plan?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Law school. Harvard, of course. But not just business law, criminal law." Parker smiled slightly, eyes shadowed. "Not that Daddy's going to hear about that part of it any time soon. Harvard has a combined MBA/jg program. It'll only take a year longer, and if I get through my undergrad in only three years, it won't delay any corporate time tables."

Jack raised an eyebrow and wandered over, grinning. "How about people from other times?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney turned. Baffled, he shook his head. "I suppose that is a logical conclusion," he said after a moment, "but I... other times?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sydney, my friend Jack Harkness. Jack, Sydney Lavert, my godfather." Jack would know it wasn't true, but easier to keep up that lie in public for now.

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney offered his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Jack. I've heard a great deal about you over the last year or so."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack took the proferred hand, glancing at Parker as he said, "All good, I'm sure." He brushed his thumb along Sydney's, smiling invitingly. "I'm even better in person."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney's eyebrows shot up, and he didn't quite manage to hide the fact that he jumped. He looked at Parker, then back at Jack, and finally laughed, shaking his head. "And I thought she exagerated. I sincerely hope you merely enjoy shocking me, Jack."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack grinned and released Sydney's hand. "You don't look that shocked to me. And I enjoy all sorts of things," he laughed. "You up for another shock?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, always. Shock is a symptom of the boundries of our mindset. What ammunition are you going to use to blow a hole in my mind?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Greatly amused, Jack held his arms wide. "Me. You were asking about people from other times? Well, I'm from the fifty-first century."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney blinked. Calculated. Blinked again. Not used to being at a loss for words, he opened his mouth -- and shut it when he realized he had nothing to say. Finally, he shook his head and asked, "Why on earth would you come here? Now. Come when. And should I not be saying 'on earth'?"

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sydney's reaction was everything he could have hoped for, even if he wasn't sure how best to answer his questions. "This school puts you in contact with people from all over the universe, and all sorts of time periods, and it's the only one of its kind. And I'm not from earth, but it still exists in my time, if that's any comfort."
