The Fandom High Tour! Saturday afternoon

At 1:00, The Tick was standing outside the school doors, waiting for any family or friends who may show up. Once they had a good group and it didn't seem like anyone else was coming, Tick said, "Well, I think that's everyone! Hello, and welcome to Fandom High! I am The Tick, Dean of Students here, and I will be your Virgil as we descend into the Seven Circles that we call school!"

The Tick thought for a moment. "Not that I'm suggesting that this school is the underworld. I was really just going with the concept of the Guide character in classic literature. Anyway, let's head on in! And if you have any questions, please ask!"

[OOC: After I get all of the OCD up, I'll be heading to work for a few hours. I shall be slow, but available to have Tick answer any questions.

This is a half-play post, half-linkdrop. Teachers who are not specifically linked to in the OCD, if you could post a link to your classroom or office post in the Classrooms OOC thread, that would be appreciated. Parents can break away from the tour to talk to those any teachers. The tour will go slowly enough to not lose people.

Parents, you can ping in wherever you might have something specific to comment on, or wherever you might talk to someone about something. Considering how many threads there are, though, and how many people may be in here, I wouldn't mind if comments that just check into the room thread are left out for the sakes of everyone's browsers.

There is also a general mingling in the dorm lobby thread if anyone wants to end the tour in another big group meeting. :) ]

Sydney offered his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Jack. I've heard a great deal about you over the last year or so."

Jack took the proferred hand, glancing at Parker as he said, "All good, I'm sure." He brushed his thumb along Sydney's, smiling invitingly. "I'm even better in person."

Sydney's eyebrows shot up, and he didn't quite manage to hide the fact that he jumped. He looked at Parker, then back at Jack, and finally laughed, shaking his head. "And I thought she exagerated. I sincerely hope you merely enjoy shocking me, Jack."

Jack grinned and released Sydney's hand. "You don't look that shocked to me. And I enjoy all sorts of things," he laughed. "You up for another shock?"

"Oh, always. Shock is a symptom of the boundries of our mindset. What ammunition are you going to use to blow a hole in my mind?"

Greatly amused, Jack held his arms wide. "Me. You were asking about people from other times? Well, I'm from the fifty-first century."

Sydney blinked. Calculated. Blinked again. Not used to being at a loss for words, he opened his mouth -- and shut it when he realized he had nothing to say. Finally, he shook his head and asked, "Why on earth would you come here? Now. Come when. And should I not be saying 'on earth'?"

Sydney's reaction was everything he could have hoped for, even if he wasn't sure how best to answer his questions. "This school puts you in contact with people from all over the universe, and all sorts of time periods, and it's the only one of its kind. And I'm not from earth, but it still exists in my time, if that's any comfort."

"It is, actually. Good to know we don't actually manage to blow ourselves up completely." Past his first shock, Sydney looked thoughtful. "Oddly, my first thought about people from other times would be to assume they were coming forward from the past. Now I wonder why I thought that."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a puzzle." Jack grinned and leaned againt the telescope's support. "Especially since anyone travelling forward wouldn't have any idea what they were jumping into." He shrugged. "But whether you go forward or back would depend on what you were trying to get out of it, I guess."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"See, you are looking at it from the perspective of the person doing the traveling -- for obvious reasons. Whereas since I cannot accurately anticipate the future, I always imagine someone coming from the past, something I am already familiar with." Sydney shook himself. "Parker may have explained that I am a psychiatrist. I tend to lose myself on tangents about why people think they way they do. Understanding the reasons why is a large part of my project... my research."

"She didn't." Eyes narrowing thoughtfully, Jack studied Sydney. "Parker doesn't talk much about where she comes from, or the people she knows from back there."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
"That's probably very wise on her part. We're aren't terribly interesting. Those of us who aren't scientists are businessmen." Sydney smiled. "It truly is a pleasure meeting you, Jack. I'm glad that Parker has someone who isn't cowed by her."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"You too, Sydney. And I'm sure you're all staid and boring." It was impossible to tell from Jack's expression whether he was joking or not. "I respect Parker, I'd do just about anything for her, but I'm not afraid of her, and one of my favourite things in the whole world," he smirked and lowered his voice so Parker - in theory - wouldn't overhear, "is bossing her around, when it's necessary."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sydney snickered quietly. "Handling Parker is a fine skill."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Only one of many I've perfected over the years." He grinned at Sydney. "Any of which I'd be happy to demonstrate for you."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sydney laughed and shook his head. "I shudder to think what would happen if I asked for a demonstration."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Jack tipped his head back and laughed. "If you asked? Nothing. If I obliged? Parker would kill me deader than dead, so I think you're safe."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Good to know that you have some sense of self-preservation. Although," and Sydney leaned closer, "I'm not completely dependant on Parker's protection."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I believe you, though I think my death would be less protecting you and more punishing me." Jack pushed off the post and shifted closer, until he was standing directly in front of Sydney, eyes gleaming as he looked the older man up and down, lips quirked in a half smile. "But trust me, Sydney. If you gave me a chance to demonstrate my skills? Hurting me would be the last thing on your mind."

Re: The Observatory

[identity profile] centre-sydney.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I have no doubts of that at all, Jack." Sydney grinned.
