Dean wandered in with his own cup of coffee, looking still half asleep. "Hey, Sammy," he said around a yawn.

Sam made a show of glancing at the clock before glancing back at Dean. "Aren't you up a little early?"

"Tell me about it. Especially considering this is my no-class-sleep-in day." Dean yawned again. "Dad called, woke me up. Said to meet him here with you, that he was bringing breakfast." He shrugged. "I wasn't awake enough to argue."

Sam frowned lightly at that, the gears already turning as he started to think. "What do you think he wants to talk about?" he asked.

Dean shrugged again. "Damned if I know." But he exchanged a look with Sam. "Gotta be important though. Dad's not really one for 'I've called you all together to tell you what a great job you've been doing. Carry on,' sort of meetings."

"No, he's not," Sam agreed. "He's much more of the 'I've decided it's time for us to leave again, so pack up ASAP and let's go,' type."

Dean frowned. "You don't think that's what this is, do you? I mean, he seems to be happy here. He did the dunk tank at the carnival. That's not something someone thinking of leaving gets into is it?"

"I don't know. He seems happy, like he's enjoying being here. And if that stuff that people have been saying about him on the radio is true..." Sam trailed off for a moment. "But, on the other hand, if something serious has come up, that might trump being here."

"That's true." Now Dean was looking worried. "Crap, I don't want to leave."

"And here I thought I'd never hear you say that. Maybe it's something else," Sam said hopefully. "Maybe something's happened to Caleb or Pastor Jim, and he wants us to know about it?"

Dean snorted. "Yeah, because that's a cheerful alternative."

"It's more cheerful than having to leave," Sam argued quietly. "I didn't say it had to be a serious something."

"Morning boys," John said cheerfully as he walked in, carrying a bag of food and a drink tray with more coffee.

Sam couldn't tell if the cheerfulness was a good sign, or a bad one. "Morning," he replied cautiously.

"Sorry to get you out of bed, Dean," John said wryly, handing over the large coffees from the Perk to both his sons. "But I wanted to give you as much warning as possible. Caleb called me yesterday, there's some strange murders happening in Nashville. We're leaving tomorrow to check them out."

Dean actually seemed to pale a little. "Leaving?"

Sam felt his stomach twist as he glanced between John and Dean. "Isn't tomorrow a little soon?"

"Not if we want to get back in time for your Monday classes," John replied, oblivious to what his sons were thinking. "I know you each are going to have to miss a couple of classes if we leave tomorrow, but I'll square it away with your teachers." He smiled a little at Sam. "Can even see if I can get homework for you to do on the drive there if you want."

"Wait, Monday classes?" Sam gave John a confused look. "We're not leaving for good?"

"No of course not," John replied, frowning. "Why woul you think that?"

"Maybe because we've done it before?" Dean suggested, looking less pale and more relieved. "It's kinda our modus operandi, Dad."

"That was the only reason we could think of for why you would want to speak to both of us," Sam added.

John looked from one to the other, then sighed. "I guess maybe we do need to talk more," he said wryly, mostly to himself.

Dean exchanged bewildered looks with his brother. "So... we're going away for the weekend so we can... talk?"

"We're going away for the weekend to hunt down what's probably a shapeshifter that's killing people," John corrected. "But... we might try to work some talking in along the way."
