Dean actually seemed to pale a little. "Leaving?"

Sam felt his stomach twist as he glanced between John and Dean. "Isn't tomorrow a little soon?"

"Not if we want to get back in time for your Monday classes," John replied, oblivious to what his sons were thinking. "I know you each are going to have to miss a couple of classes if we leave tomorrow, but I'll square it away with your teachers." He smiled a little at Sam. "Can even see if I can get homework for you to do on the drive there if you want."

"Wait, Monday classes?" Sam gave John a confused look. "We're not leaving for good?"

"No of course not," John replied, frowning. "Why woul you think that?"

"Maybe because we've done it before?" Dean suggested, looking less pale and more relieved. "It's kinda our modus operandi, Dad."

"That was the only reason we could think of for why you would want to speak to both of us," Sam added.

John looked from one to the other, then sighed. "I guess maybe we do need to talk more," he said wryly, mostly to himself.

Dean exchanged bewildered looks with his brother. "So... we're going away for the weekend so we can... talk?"

"We're going away for the weekend to hunt down what's probably a shapeshifter that's killing people," John corrected. "But... we might try to work some talking in along the way."

Sam glanced at his dad as though a few marbles had possibly been knocked loose. "Okay. And when we're done, we're coming back here?" he asked, just for the sake of hearing it again.

"Yes, Sam," John said patiently. "We're coming back here when we're done."

That was enough reassurance for time being, so Sam allowed himself to relax. "Good. Great, actually. Were you serious about maybe getting homework for me to do, because that would be really helpful for the car ride."

Dean snorted. "You're such a geek," he told his brother.

"I'll see about getting homework for both of you," John emphasised with a smile.

Sam gave Dean a very satisfied grin. "Thanks Dad."

"Yeah," Dean said with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "Thanks."

"I can help you with your homework, if you want," Sam offered. "We've got what, a ten hour drive to Nashville? That's plenty of time for me to help you with whatever subjects you're having trouble in."

Dean opened his mouth to retort, then closed it again. "Huh. I'm.. actually not having any trouble. Doing pretty well actually. Who'd've thunk?"

Sam felt a little disappointed at not being able to help ~~and mock~~, but he also looked a little proud. "Well, then I guess you can help me, if you're such the genius now."

"Or we could just work on our communications project and propehcy homework together," Dean suggested. "Hey, we could get pictures of the Winchesters Inc in action!"

John blinked. "Winchesters Inc?"

Sam snickered. "Our Communications project is to create advertisements for a fake company. We decided to make ourselves the company, and advertise our hunting services."

"Yeah," Dean said enthusiastically. "We're going to do print ads, have testimonials, business cards, the whole works. We still need a motto though."

"A motto," John repeated. "For hunting."
